POST MATCH: Liverpool v West Ham (EPL 31/10/20 5.30pm)

Apparently the ruled out goal was for a foul on the defender if the boot was on the other foot and it had been challenge on Mane know way a penalty would have been awarded.

And yet two Prem games in a row coming from behind against a team just interested in defending and waiting for a mistake.

Against Villa, we tried to go offensive when behind, and we all know what happened there. Need an amount of control to prevent getting countered.

Otherwise, you’ll just fall into the trap that the defending team would want.

Phillips did really well today. But once again, Jones failed to convince me he’s good enough.
Henderson was superb again, but Jota and Shaqiri made the difference when they came on. Brilliant pass again from Shaqiri for the goal.

To be more precise, let’s hope the new centre-half is not as brittle as Matip! Otherwise, I think a VVD- Phillips combi will be a nightmare for any target man!

Anyone who has been in a real game of football should know the value of Gini Wijnaldum; graft and consistency, retention of possession. Poor old @Flobs surely cannot have ever been in one living in the south of France eating cheese and drinking cucumber cordial at his local boules game.

In the first half, Curtis was very obviously instructed to cover the left for Andy. He stayed back most of the game.

What he needs to do is learn how to balance the defensive with taking some offensive risks.

I agree reluctantly that it was a foul but if it had happened at the other end the goal would definitely not have been chalked off thankfully Jota scored another one he is becoming our new talisman when he scores we win.

In my opinion, it was one of the better referring performances.

You can keep your structure and maintain control without every player just sitting static and not making any movement off-the-ball. For the first chunk of the second half, that was a huge frustration. The introduction of Jota and Shaq changed that and jolted a few players. Let’s not let one bad result force us into a lazy style of play that fails to unlock defences.

I think today has shown that Jota deserves to start in place of Firmino and Klopp should be making far more use of Shaqiri, than he does at the moment. I’m afraid Bobby seems to have lost his mojo and needs an extended rest.
One thing is for certain, we can’t really sing the Firmino song at the moment.

But that’s what I mean. West Ham thought it was a foul on the keeper. Ref doesn’t blow for either “foul” but on review he’s looking for a reason to rule it out.

I just don’t understand the decision making process anymore. How can that Pickford foul go unpunished but a foul on a bloke who thought it was a foul on a different guy is looked at.

The critical part seems to be about trying to identify reasons to rule out goal instead of applying rules with an ounce of common sense. I’m just sick of it, it’s ruining the one part of game we all want to see.

Nat with a solid performance, but honestly west ham was poor in attack.
Shaq great pass, and lovely Jota.

Very good 3 p, I still hate that equal game with everton, but thats var.

You’re right: this one was just wank, instead of the usual total wank.

What has that got to do with incompetent, incapable goalies?

Gini is a very good, tidy player. When he plays well he is integral to the way we play. When he plays badly he may as well not be on the pitch. He never has a horror show but there are games (few and far between) when we may as well be playing Caspar the Friendly Ghost. Today was one of those days. Can’t remember him having two crap games in a row though, so he’ll be right as rain come next matchday.

First match I’ve watched since the Villa game, being away in Brazil meant I couldn’t find them anyhow only saw half due to falling asleep when I got back earlier, second half we generally looked good and started to control it when Shaq and Jota came on, so it’s probably right them two create the winner.

Jota is becoming an asset and of the two signings has probably been more useful ( then again Thiago has been unlucky).

With Fabinho injured we had to scrape through though not sure why our attack seems to have suffered more from the loss on VVD, gave MOTM to Henderson as you can see what we miss when he isn’t on the pitch by watching him on the pitch.

I too don’t really celebrate goals anymore though the VAR one I knew would be chalked off, is it clear and obvious, well not really and I think the only person who touches the ball is Mane but at least Freind is going over to the monitor and deciding it. You kind of feel if Oliver had against Everton then we would be a further two points better off due to Pickford being sent off.

Anyhow very impressed with Phillips generally and probably more concerned over Gomez, however I did like how both Trent and Robbo covered tonight and I wonder if that’s the slight change by Klopp. He has a chance to grab a position within the squad, I can see Klopp buying a CB as we need one anyhow but if he does continue to play well then it might be at the expense of Matip.

Cucumbers are for english sandwiches. Here in the south of france it’s pastis or grenadine or both! :rage:
As for graft what’s the point if your not there when your needed and can only pass backwards?

I didn’t celebrate the goal that was eventually disallowed and I didn’t celebrate the goal that was allowed. I just sat there quiet, because I now expect every goal to be ruled out by VAR. It’s completely ruining the game I have followed all my life.
