It’s really interesting. When Red Kev whipped that ball in and it hit Gomez, in real time I thought No Pen. It was only on the reply I thought, Ah fuck I think it is.

And I do think it probably is a pen, on balance.

I suspect the on field ref doesn’t give it. It’s only cos of VAR that it gets awarded. It makes me wonder if the reason why this doesn’t get given pre VAR is not because of body shape or anything like that, but simple because nobody can see it properly, and you can’t give those unless you’re Lee Mason.

Still I’m not complaining, cos I’d want that at the other end. And Red Kev missed it anyway

It isn’t given in real time because it looks like a completely normal and natural sequence of events. It is only when you limit it to freeze frames you see Gomez’s arm “outstretched” but that freeze frame ignores that it was as the natural part of running. We’ve seen it in La Liga and Serie A for 2 seasons now.

I’m sanguine because this feels less like getting unfairly fucked and more the poor but consistent dumb application of a rule.

He had the correct covering position in regards to his distance to Robbo and had no fault in the goal. The 4 positions that caused us problems were Gini, he should have denied the angle of the pass to KDB, Hendo was too far forward an the wrong side of Gundogan, whose run pulled Joel away from Trent making the pass from KDB to Jesus easier, Trent maybe s should have been more goal side of Jesus but he did have another Ciyu player behind him and lastly Sadio who made the jump to press and got beaten. Robbo and Gomez were in their correct positions.

In the end they beat the press and we were out of position in midfield and they then played good footy to score, the players and coaches will learn from it, but no team/player can be perfect and to be honest it was Jesus miss control that allowed them to score.

These posts are so far wide of the mark it’s ridiculous.
It’s like saying chocolate teapots are good for storing hot tea, combs are useful for bald men and I think Elvis is still alive.
Carrying Salah? "Words fail me.

I can handle different viewpoints.
But I didn’t come on this site to read random nonsense.
It’s like listening to Trump talk about footy.
“Jurgen is wrong no matter what he says”???
I think Jurgen knows his tactics more than anyone.

Horrible positioning by Trent? Whether it was a fluke or skill, I think it was skill, what happened was not Trent showing him the inside. To do piece of skill you almost have to turn away from goal. It’s good football.
Every single goal let in by any team is a mistake. Because the idea is to score goals not let them in.

We were a bit better in the first half despite them having a few good attacks. Could have gone 1 up within the first 3 minutes. We created chances.
We defended well, deserved to concede with their possession compared to ours in my opinion.
Penalty was most likely a pen. Although was harsh on Joe as his arm was in a natural position but at least the penalty was missed.

Second half, both teams looked tired. We were poor, giving the ball away at every opportunity.
Was happy for Shaq to come on for a sub-par Bobby but Shaq was quite ineffective on the right wing (would have liked him more central and Jota ahead of him).
Personally I would have taken a point before the game and I’ll take it now.
Reckon Jürgen is a happier man than Pep at the minute.

Why was minamino not in the bench?

Not good if not injured. I see him going in Jan. Just hasnt worked.

Really wonder why this school of thought still persist amongst us. Have we sold players within a year because they haven’t featured enough? On one hand we talk about not having squad depth and when we have one, we want everyone who doesn’t feature on the matchday sold. Are we seriously this impatient with our players that we can’t stand the sight of them not featuring enough? There are plenty of reasons why he might not be on the bench, which will just be pure speculation from our end. Not being good enough should probably be the last IMO.

This is typical of City/ Chelsea to do so and just keep signing players after players without giving them time at all. It’s not like he’s cost us plenty or is on wages which could be used to improve the squad elsewhere. We are winning things, we are in a wonderful position to plan long term and make this or rather continue this successful model. We would never be where we are if Klopp had the thought process that we have here at times.

Not impatient at all but he cannot get on the bench and even though Bobby is out of form still cant get on the pitch. Hes been here nearly a year and bar a goal v Blackpool and some other 2nd division team in the cup not shown anything.
I hope it works out for him but not getting on the bench without a knock is worrying.

The way things are going, we might have to play him at centre half!!
