Post Match: Newcastle v Liverpool (EPL 23/8/26 4.30pm)

I think everyone near except Kerkez were awful for that goal.

On top of what you mentioned, Willock actually ran past Gravenberch and Frimpong, Van dijk let them run 20 yards and didn’t take charge, and Jacquet turned the wrong way and wasn’t blocking Willocks angle to goal.

Szoboszlai has a great and varied passing range, he just can not pick them out and doesn’t have the creativity. He could learn where and when in training to set off or even finish,/last pass moves.
What I don’t like is when he lets balls go past him, I know it’s deliberate, it rarely works out (as it’s to near the opposition box) and I feel he should take responsibility. He is in line to become captain and that’s what captain’s should be doing imo.

Really the worst part was Szoboszlai getting suckered and over committing when just preventing the turn and buying time was called for.
What happened after were consequences due to that imo.
The player was no longer in their zone :rofl:.

I cant believe they allowed Bolt to start so much further ahead than the rest of the runners

That’s what used to drive me mad about Emre Can

For a B2B midfielder, his passing and decision making are no good. Sure, he runs around but doesn’t help enough defensively at all.

The set-pieces he is famed for are all duds.

To be honest, box to box midfielders do generally have mediocre passing as their skills are more in their dynasm and being all action.

But he is very low risk and safe in his passing and lacking invention, which makes it hard to pass through the middle of teams if he isn´t already on the charge and using momentum. He can´t inject that tempo into the game with passing. You see how Nyoni in the video pivots his body around the ball so he can open himself up for a forward pass. Dom doesnt have that.

I think his set pieces are okay but he´s a bit of a highlights player and in my view not as good as our fans built him up to be. Solid player to have but not world class or anything.

Neither is mine, it just frustration that we don’t know what is happening plus Hughes has gone AWOL probably should have been on Garden Leave and Edwards to step in.

If there is one Newcastle player to come to Liverpool it’s not him as he was running around on Sunday trying to break one of our players with impunity. He is died in the Wool Newcastle.

Edwards already left on the 10th July

I think his best position in the whole time he was with the club was RCM when he can roam and go B2B. In the current system, CAM may be his best fit where he has that physicality and athleticism to help the MF pivot and attack the box.

Probably true, part of a midfield 3, not with 3 Wirtz but with 2 other actual centre midfielders so he doesn´t have to be responsible for being in position as much or for passing and he can just go and try get a goal or something.

As I said, the Wirtz transfer truly disrupted the title-winning midfield trio. OTOH, buying Wharton last summer would have added value to our midfield, especially after Trent’s departure and reoriented our entire transfer plan for the better due to butterfly effects (e.g. buying a Diaz replacement instead of Isak). Ohh, and without the Wirtz deal we might have never signed Frimpong.

An ideal summer 2025 transfer would have been like this: Barcola or Gordon, Wharton, Guehi, Ekitike, another RB, Antoinee Robinson (much closer profile to Robertson than Kerkez even if he is older). None of them bar maybe Gordon would have surpassed 100m in summer 2025.
