Post match: Newcastle v Liverpool (EPL 30/12/20 8pm)

No one says they wouldn’t feel concern.
And earnings as a cure for stress? Its not but it allows you room to cope with that stress.

I disagree with your final point to be honest. It often locks you into a position you really want to get out of.

Footballers not so much but I certainly dont think they’re 100% comfortable at the moment. There must be stuff that plays on their minds and that has, in part played it’s role in this topsy turvy season.

Anyway I hope you’re well and coping at this difficult time

Well, although Salah is currently the league’s top scorer, and Bobby is getting closer to his former levels, I understand your point. I think Jota qualifies for what you’re missing, and it’s costing us. Real pity he got injured in an insignificant game. Hope our front three find their scoring boots until he returns, major games coming up, and they usually do in those…

I’m pretty sure they didn’t even whisper it, but felt it weigh down their pants on a daily basis. Will personally only feel it if we don’t beat them and if this gets worse and worse…

Salah out of form and top scorer? Can’t wait for him to be on form. Yes he forgot his scoring boots last couple of games, but so did most forwards from other teams.
I don’t think we can judge this season based on any other season, let alone the last two that have been extraordinary. This is a special season, and I think it will be mostly won at maximum 80 points.
It’s just like that-the obligatory sulk during season interruption last season was already felt in the run-in, the recovery period after the end of the season and the abnormal pre-season, along with the compressed schedule, both of which are affecting injuries and fitness levels, make this season a whole different fruit.
For me, it’s not so much the front three, as much as the delivery. It starts by missing on the way we play from the back, with VVD and Joe, and even Matip’s absence was felt in that respect. As well as Trent being in lower form levels than his usual.
Although I was very positively surprised with Nate’s and Rhys’ first couple of games each, deep down it was clear it was difficult to last when you’re replacing world class.
Speaking of which, I hope Thiago’s return will solve this, his touch was unreal and I think a full half would have seen us score. It was just not possible for him to play more, apparently. Hopefully he’ll be fully back. A midfield of Gini, Thiago and Hendo should be really dominant, with Jones, Milner and Ox as solid backup. And although I am not holding my breath, a ball playing center back would be a blessing this January.

I was under the impression their manager was in isolation, and is coming back just in time for our game. So the form you’re describing may have to do with that…perfect timing again? We’ll, I hope we beat them just the same.

Was just thinking the same in the last two games. We struggled to get past the press and we’re just too slow in the build up, and the constant long balls were just frustrating, a sign of being unable to develop our game as opposed to being a variation mixed with playing a fast, forward passing game. It did look better when Thiago came in, but we’ll need a defense that can tune in to that.

Well written. An honest and reasoned appraisal.

taken a few days to comment on the game, frustrating, disappointing, but having re-watched the game, hoping that that was our last blip of the season.
I can somehow excuse these blips as long as we hammer manure on a big scale that they plead to be relegated
