Congratulations Flobs, you must be dead proud Grandad!
Nice little win…to get the old spirits up and going!
Still up to my bum in snow…but the whiskey will taste better just the same.
Congrats on the grandson…guide him on the right path…the Red one…
Surprised Hendo has so much of the vote tonight, thought he was one of our weakest players. Slow to pick up runners far too often.
Thiago and Trent deserving of more votes, both we’re excellent.
Aww, this so lovely! Give the boy a hug.
Even Kabak agrees with me about himself. I hops that shuts some others up!
That’s his dads job and how he will be judged as a father. I won’ put any spanners in the works however it’s not easy here in the south of France those pesky L’OM supporters are everywhere. Then they don’t win the CL anymore just need one of those in around 8 years time. Did my son the world of good seeing his father blubbering away during the final in Istanbul.
No need to imagine that, it’s been done.
I thought he played well considering he did have to keep an eye on a wet behind the ears, novice of a CB,at the same time as keeping the defence in check, captaining the team and playing out of position, plus got us a clean sheet,so he didn’t do too badly. He got a vote from me.
He didn’t need to keep an eye on Kabak so much, he was fine. Henderson had a problem tracking runners tonight.
He was okay, just surprised he’d be voted for MOTM with so many instances of defending where he could have done better. He was the weak link in that back 4 tonight for me.
Yes the few occassions where I saw Henderson mis judge a situation it was when Kabak had fallen too deep or hadn’t stepped up soon enough for offside to work. Not as bad as what Matip has done in the past but better synchroniseation and timing should come with time. Kabak is very young for a CB at this level plus being in a new team Henderson really should be a bit more aware and wary. Then again Henderson isn’t an old head at the CB game either. (only saw the 2nd half so there might have been worst stuff in the 1st half).
I don’t agree with the Kabak part,he’s only 20 and has no experience in our team,he needs his hand held as much as possible atm,he has too many errors in his game for Henderson to not have to keep an eye on him.
I’m nitpicking but a few times tonight his positioning was off,Trent,Robbo and Hendo would be in line and Kabak would drop deeper leaving one of their players onside to attack us,against a more deadlier forward line up,that could cost us a game at this level,he did the same against Leicester for Barnes to run in and score the 3rd on the weekend.
The central defensive pairing aren’t entirely in sync… which is to be expected, given the lack of time playing together. It’s easy to pick out a few examples when one went deep and the other stepped out. The most glaring one was right near the end, when they could and should have pulled one back as Hendo stepped out but they broke though. A 2-1 game is very different to a 2-0 game, but fortunately for us it is 2-0.
Hendo is a leader and he is doing a job for the team at cb. Very good midfielder indeed, and we miss his drive there. As a cb he is good, and rapidly improving. The best part of his game there is the passing, and on more than a few occasions he has hit the long diagonal, like VVD. The positioning is the weakest part. It not terrible, but it’s not elite either, which is to be expected, given games played in the position.
Kabak is a good lad. Strong, committed, wins personal battles and is up for the fight. Seems to have a good attitude here too. He knows he is on trial, and if it goes well this will launch him to a new level. So he is going to give his all to try to grab his chance, and good luck to him.
Whether that will be enough, and whether we will buy someone else in summer remains to be seen. But good luck to the lad. Chances are his success will be our success.
I was traveling for work and had to watch the match on my phone. I thought our pressing was phenomenal. The 2 big mistakes didn’t happen by accident. That was a result of our pressing and giving them little time on the ball, and the moments they actually did have time they felt rushed to make a pass. We punished them for their mistakes and that was beautiful.
I thought Leipzig played us pretty well in the first half. Angelino is some talent.
EDIT: with regard to the officiating, I actually thought it was slanted in our favor a bit, for once. For the most part they let the boys play, both sides.
Yeah in my view it’s our best display since Atlanta in which we were also quite heavy in pressing, generally wanted to see that tonight, had been waiting for us to be at a team, we let them have the first 10 and the last 15 but bar one or two chances we got at them.
There is a reason why I believe that Liverpool’s chance to win CL is as strong as securing a place in Top 4. As we can see, Leipzig and probably many other foreign teams, unlike PL teams, is not familiar with our football style and cannot properly adapt, as indicated by this match.
@Iftikhar you started the pre match thread but did not watch our game live? Correct?
Liverpool’s chance to win CL is as strong as securing a place in Top 4.
Yes; it’s because officials on the continent do not have a premeditated agenda against us, unlike their English counterparts.
good away win, but very happy that the lads played with their heads held high considering they have lost 3 consecutive games. Maybe, just maybe they also were aware that they wouldn’t be shafted by the ref, like they experience practically every PL game
Not much to add to this thread but I found that one of the most enjoyable games for a while. It wasn’t so much that we won, although that helps, but Leipzig were really up for it and the officials kept the game flowing well - even with our disallowed goal they were able to call a tight decision correctly without resorting to armpits and micropixels.
