Post match: Spurs v Liverpool (ELC 8/1/25 8pm)

I get your point; however, I am more worried with either Macca or Ryan getting hurt or burning out. As good as Jones is, he cannot really play their roles as well as they do. We have seen the lack of balance when Macca is not in the side. it would be worse with Ryan out. There are so many things that Ryan does that curtis as good as he is can never do.

To be fair to him, he said unless the refs deem it excessive force, which he claims it wasn’t…wrongly.

Might have been a different set of comments, but the ones I saw he explicitly spoke about cynical fouls, referencing fouls done to stop a promising attack. In saying this he ignored the recklessness of the challenge, which is really what people were raising in complaining about it. If he did say this comment also, that is also wrong, because excessive force is a red card criterion, and while that does have different implications again for playing advantage, no one is calling this is a straight red

Jota is the best CF at the club.

He might be and I accept many people think that. He is not though at the same level of players like Virgil, Gravy, Mac, Salah in terms of automatic inclusion if fit

Wow that is unbelievable and I feel, he knew that if he gave a foul the lad was off, so IMO he cheated, because everyone else knew that was a foul.

I’ve never accused refs of cheating that is the only conclusion from this.

Its fairly remarkable that it is the second time this season a ref has dealt with the implication of having to send off a player if he blows his whistle by pretending it wasnt even a foul (Darwin’s goal after Mo was pulled down on a break away…Villa I think)

Just look at the posters giving them shit and it says it all.

The only one who didn’t play to the level he has shown this season, and I’m not saying he has had a bad game, is Jones.

My thoughts on Jones not being at his level is that he hasn’t been playing game after game and the rotation of him and Szob has kept them fresh as it seems the most demanding position physically and also created healthy competition.

I’m not saying it isn’t a foul, but you can’t say that we should have had a penalty, when the challenge directly before was a foul by Virg, you sometimes have to see that the ref missed that one also.

Also, if VAR had looked at it they would have picked up Virg’s foul first.

He also had a kid a few weeks ago. I know these guys are pampered and have every resource available to them, but I have never met a first time parent who wasnt affected in work in someway for a period after that

i can accept at some point everyones affected a little by the birth of thier first child, but this is a 90 minute segment from his week…his training maybe affected, or his warm downs, his concentration, lots of little things…but match day is match day…little johnny can be compatmentalised for 4-6 hours…

take a cop…maybe hes affected in his paperwork, front desk or so on…but if hes working within the community, he HAS to be on…

either that or call it…at 70k plus a week, when your judged on 90 minutes and 90 minutes only…you need to be honest.

i dont buy the new father excuse…maybe in 1988…not 2025

Yeah surely you’d think that in 2025 people would have learnt to not overestimate their abilities…

I don’t know if it is because of the new father thing or not, but whether you’re affected by it or not is not related to your paycheque.

In 1988 new dads were all down the pub smoking cigars.

I know I was…but I’d never smoked and it made me feel very queasy…

Do you think when those AcSt guys have the ball, ready to pass, they look up and say to themselves… Where’s Whalley… :0)
