What a **** that ref was.

I want to love Wirtz but… he is really providing very little. He runs, he presses sure. But he is there to create and score goals. He is given the platform in the team to do that and he does not. If you put Gibbs-White there you would get more.

I had really high hopes of him stamping a mark and showing his real talent this season.
As time goes on its becoming apparent we may have spunked £100 million on the German Jay Spearing

I think Andoni might be a big naive in saying to the media that he’ll tell players to dive in the future. Just gives the refs more excuse to fuck us over. Should have just said that VAR should have given it regardless. Then told Isak in private to go down next time

For all the rule changes, technology additions, diversity implementations and PC pandering that have been introduced to the game, we still have an independent body (outside contractor) with a massive influence on results who are completely unaccountable.

We cant complain… MAC Alister is the same

We can complain, and recognise that MacAllister needs to stop this nonsense at the same time.
Most Liverpool supporters are embarrassed by MacAllister yesterday. Of course it could have been red or at least yellow for the head movement, but Macca acted the tool and took any sympathy out of it.

Gabriel is a serial cheating arrogant cunt, self entitled and hateful.
I can’t stand the likes of Bruno, Saka, Raya, Ronaldo…but this cunt is a different level.

This is way over the top. Wirtz can and ought to play better, but he was the best of the forwards and the most threatening.

It was a collective failure rather than the fault of any individual.

No Jomez. No 7-0. My prediction heavily relied on Jomez.

Also Arsenal are fucking shit. I swore a lot during this game. I am glad i am not an Arse fan. I suppose Arse fans are comfortable with watching shit.

One observation I realised is that with Trey Nyoni and Macca, Wirtz is more or less occupying the space between their pivot and their defence as the midfield pivot always delivered the ball to Wirtz .

After Trey went off for Szobo, Szobo went forward leaving Macca behind to do it all himself. Arsenal then crowded out Macca and cut the supply lines off to the final third.

As you said, it is systemic failure or rather the players in the pivot cannot perform the required actions.

It is even worse when it is wirtz grav and dom. They both end up constantly running into the space that Wirtz is meant to be in. They don’t pass it, they just run. Macallister is a pain because he takes too many touches, he’s a very good 1 and 2 touch player but since slot’s arrival he plays in a more controlled slow way. Iraola needs to kick him up the arse!

The final ball from wide areas was poor yesterday on both sides, far too often.

Huh? I thought Macca was brilliant yesterday (aside from the playacting), as he has been all season

At least that isn’t as frustrating as Szoboszlai who slows the game down standing over the ball for ages. He stands over the ball until all his passing options are gone then dribbles forward till he hits a wall a passes backward.
For me this crass behaviour should be easy to fix in training so why is it still persisting?

Common sense suggests he was our best player by a mile yesterday. As you acknowledge, aside ftom the play acting.

Some of the analysts of our midfield is nonsensical.

He’s been good in front of goal. He doesn’t move the ball quickly enough, often enough. I am not saying he is terrible but he was much better 2-3 seasons ago when in possesion.

100% agree. I can recall being the manager of a side many moons ago and lambasting a player for constantly shooting at the guy stood in front of him.

It is lazy and tunnel visioned. Often lacking belief in the ability of other players. Not saying that’s what he thinks… but that’s my general feeling about many players that do that kind of thing.

We need to shift the ball quicker and not all run into the same central area. It is not nonsensical … it actually makes very good sense :joy:

I actually don’t care about Macca going down. We’ve seen throughout that entire game the ref blow every time they go down and ignore a blatant penalty when Isak didn’t. If the ref is rewarding that behaviour why wouldn’t you go down?

Someone puts their head into yours it should be a booking. Throw more of a headbutt and it should be red. Pretty simple really.

But somehow, despite Timber and Mac Allister getting booked for the altercation, Madueke gets off with nothing even though he went racing in and inflamed the situation. The fact he’s on a yellow already means he should be off.

Also, notice Arsenal players are up in arms about Mac giving Odegaard a tap on the head but felt entirely comfortable pulling his shirt and repeatedly slapping his back whilst he was down. Again, ref does nothing to those retaliating and antagonising a situation that came about because of the way he officiated the game.

So yeah, who gives a shit if Macca goes down easy, they’ve done it all game and been rewarded for it. Play to the ref not the letter of the law if he’s not applying it.

I don’t like any player doing it but i do get your point.

My issue is with the staying down after challenging for the ball and the opposition runs away and now the team is a man short effectively. Macallister does it a lot when challenging for headers.

Other players on our team might do it too but i don’t notice.. macallister blad head makes it easy to spot!

I’m beginning to think that against the better teams our attack may struggle and we will need the mid-field to step up.

We were pretty sold on the whole in the middle and at the back but the attack never really got going. It was similar to the ManCity game in some ways. Barcola is frightening on the break or when in a 1-2-1 situation. However, trying to combine when we are in their third, he is still looking for what works for him. Isak is a bit more of a settled story and if the chance comes along he will take it. However, we have to create situations where he gets them and there we clearly sruggled. Gakpo is always ok and will be there or there abouts with his skill-set and leve. Beyond taking them individually, the other slight issue I have is in how they combine as a front 3 - or 3.5 if you count Wirtz.

It is still all a very much “a awork in progress” - and may take awhile.

Bottom line from yesterday, Arsenal aren’t that good (i.e. there isn’t really a gap between us) and but of an out of the ordinary error the outcome may have been quite different.
