Well… when we went 1-0 up, I initially thought it was a masterclass. The long ball tactic was clearly intended to disrupt Newcastle and prevent them from getting the crowd behind them early with free flowing football.
For me, the bigger issue was the tactics after we went 2-0 up, which seemed to be to passively pass it among the defenders and invite the Newcastle press. It led to countless set pieces, which we dealt with disastrously tonight.
I think I enjoyed that one in retrospect! I couldn’t be arsed listening to Caragher and Neville afterwards. Are they always that irritating? Watching adverts in Irish is fun, though.
Anyway, I’m sure I read about a game like this in a comic when I was a kid. Not so sure it was Roy of the Rovers. Rio of the Reds, maybe?
I do think they looked dead when Hugo scored like they looked more likely to get another red card. I would take us going back to the Slot of early last season where we saw games out with some boring play.
Bradley - ok coming back from injury but was way off it. Booked with a pointless foul.
Kerkez - thought he was more disciplined tonight and didt go flying in likel ast week but my god what the fuck was that for the 1st goal?
Konate - Garbage again. He gives me sleepless nights. Hes all over the place. Get Guehe in ASAP,
VVD- Immense. That was a captains performance of the highest level.
