Post match v West Ham (A) (EPL 26/4/23 7:45pm)

How did Benrahma get so much space outside our box
to take that shot…we had players around him but nobody got close to cut it off

Particularly pleasing to see Curtis Jones put together a run of good performances.

UEFA have consistently been far stricter going back several years. Amusingly, Ceferin came out earlier this week complaining about inconsistency in handball and no one knowing what counts as a handball anymore, and didnt seem to appreciate that maybe clubs playing in competitions that had starkly different interpretations of the law didnt help

He took up a lot of positions in that our shape made it difficult to pick up. Too wide for Trent to get to immediately, too deep for Hendo to get goal side on, yet a bit too far away from Matip for Joel to feel comfortable pushing out to him. It nearly caught us early on with this Virgil turnover, and is was this space they exploited on their goal.

I don’t want to do it, but if we keep winning and Man Utd only get 6 points from those four games, we will pass them on goal difference.

It’s the hope that kills you! I was at peace with it, but now it’s all go again!

Fourth. It’s on!

I am not even thinking about it. The second you start thinking an opponent can take points off one of these clubs you should prepare for a downer. For instance, there’s a very good chance Newcastle will beat Arsenal in their home game given Newcastle’s home record and Arsenal’s little choke.

No point thinking about what could potentially happen. Just concentrate on us and whatever will be, will be.

Like a new signing!

Jones fit. Bradley coming back from a loan at Bolton.

Out summer signings are already here, lads. No need to spend money

Well, that’s two pts dropped by Man Utd. Four more over their next three games - tricky games, and we are in there. Possibly.

But that’s also one point gained by Spurs.

I get that, but we win our game in hand on Spurs and we leapfrog them. It’s all in our own hands whether we finish above Spurs or not.

Man Utd are catchable, possibly, but it is not in our hands.

Underlying premise is we have to win our games. All season long we haven’t managed that, but just lately there’s a glimmer of hope that we are getting it done.

So with the example above, in a four game block, and we play two games, we need to win ours and Man a Utd need to drop six points and we go ahead on goal difference,

They dropped two points against Spurs, so now we need them to drop four points. Villa, Brighton, West Ham… you never know!

Unless I am missing something we can get to 71 points max. Man U can get to 81. That is a 10 point swing.

So they need to drop 10 points and we would still need to win all our remaining games… :smirk:

I think United’s heads will be rather distracted by the sale playing out in the next few weeks. Excellent!

I think in my desire to pass the buggers, I may have been underestimating the gap :joy:

Be easier to say they’re 7 points clear with a game in hand

I agree. It’s not even worth considering until United play at least two more times. By that stage it will be either already over or a good chance. I won’t lie …I think United have a few tricky away games and it’s still possible that they win 3, draw 2 and lose 2 ( which is probably the best, most likely combination of results that will allow us to overtake them) but that happening plus us winning every point available is a pretty slim chance.
