Just imagine, if the Cresswell tackle had been inflicted on a player from Atletico Madrid!
The player would have taken a long, long time to get up on his feet. Meanwhile, the manager would have gone nuts on the sidelines, and the whole team would have surrounded the ref, shouting and yelling at him. 99 times out of 100, the result from that ongoing pressure would have been a red card for Cresswell, directly given by the ref, and then confirmed by VAR.
Very true, but in this case I don’t even think it needs that.
If you watch the footage, it’s a fairly long VAR check which leads you to think he’s going to get sent - until the point where Hendo stands up, sorts his socks out and makes it clear he’s OK.
At which point the VAR check is mysteriously over.
I don’t think it’s in any paranoid to summise that the sight of Hendo up and OK gave Atwell an out.
A prime example of not adapting in-game. We are so easy to get chances against yet we never adapt ingame. Why for 10mins didn’t Van Dijk switch with Matip?
That’s one way to look at it. Another is that in the last 50 PL games, we’ve amassed 94 points, while City have collected 109. We played most of those 50 games with a makeshift defence, but we’ve also won 2 of our last 6 league games having a full compliment.
There is a downward trend, which needs to be arrested.
Waiting eagerly for Sky’s ref watch section with Dermot Gallagher. No doubt he will say VAR were right.
Same. If you see a smashed tv in the street it’ll be mine.
That’s fair enough.
Maybe we are returning to a more ‘sustainable’ level, after two years of super human effort (followed by a dog of a year)…not sure sustainable is the right word, but I hope you know what I mean.
Agree we need to stop a downward trend but…
Very interesting questions, these long-term ebbs and flows…
How do you keep it going and for how long…sovereign wealth funds aside…
He won’t disagree with a referee ever. There is literally no point to him. His existence is to reinforce the authority and infallibility of PGMOL.
WH were very well organised and very physically strong at the back and their attacking players were very quick and physically strong. Fact is we were out muscled. IMO our build up needs quicker passing which means a little more risk taking but we are rather predictable at the moment. The ploy of pushing Trent into more central midfield positions is o.k if there is adequate cover but the way we are playing it leaves us exposed.
Overall I did not think we played that badly. WH are a tough side to beat at the moment and I think will continue to be so as they seem to have a few bob behind them.
I did feel that the first goal should have been disallowed. The rules seem to have been changed in favour of bully boy tactics.
I’m disappointed with the performances that Thiago provides us. We were excited when he came to the club because he would bring incisive passing and creativity. In the end, he seems (in my opinion) to just pass the ball sideways.
Aaannnddd…it’s no red card for Dermot Gallagher. Something to do with ‘point of contact’.
So there you have it. It’s fine to be in a horizontal position, 18" off the ground, studs in opposition players’ knee and other foot kicking his standing leg from underneath him.
Presenter started off by looking into the camera and making some shite joke about Jurgen Klopp will be watching, guffaws all around. All helps to perpetuate the whingeing foreigner narrative.
Another of our players is going to get a serious injury soon because of this fucking nonsense. When it happens we should walk off the pitch.
Not to be in disagreement, I do think it was a red card but the only mitigating factors that I could offer is that Cresswells initial challenge, he didn’t lead with the studs and it wasn’t 2 footed. It very quickly turned into leading studs and 2 footed though, which to my mind makes him very much out of control.
Its a comedy show.
Gallagher changes his accent to fit in, always sides with the refs decision and gets involved in the banter.
Pointless programming and of no value to the football debate.
Typical SKY shite.
I’m interested in the whole ‘point of contact’ thing.
It looks to me like Cresswell’s left boot makes contact with Hendersons right knee and his other boot makes contact with the side of Henderson’s left knee. Is that ok then?
I’m usually against the crowd on here when it comes to the officials but that was a dangerous tackle and clear red.
You can take the boy out of PGMOL but you can’t take PGMOL out of the boy.
I also think we’re paying the price for not being able to refresh the squad enough, at times we’re becoming quite predictable too.
I thought that’s what we needed with Gini gone?!
