Post Match: West Ham - Liverpool (PL; 7/11/21)

Virg and Joel dont cover CB’s due to us usinga zonal system, with a couple of blockers for their runners. Zonal is good but teams can overload as they did on the 1st goal and nobody responded by helping Ali, however he should have done better

There is no “grand conspiracy”. And there are many factors to consider when talking about the level of thuggery visited on Liverpool and the unwillingness of referees/VAR to deal with it.

Liverpool being “nice” is a factor, and recalling great footballers and hard bastards as a way to combat thuggery is unpalatable to some posters.
Case, Souness, Hughes would have gone through Ronaldo a few weeks ago, but that isnt part of our current DNA.

There are other factors that we maybe don’t agree on, but looking at the list @jaffod produced you have to wonder why this type of crap is allowed against us?

Yes we certainly seem to be on the receiving end more than other teams (though City can rightly have a few complaints this year too). Not sure what other reasons other than those I’ve suggested, though I’m sure there are some.

Carra and Gerrard also wouldn’t have tolerated our guys getting kicked around. Milner is the only player we have now with a bit of an edge (maybe Mane too). Maybe the one downside of Klopp’s policy of only signing players with good character who seem genuinely good human beings. Still, much better than being a bunch of shithouses

I didn’t realise West Ham’s goal keeping coach is Xavi Valero… he is elite level… apparently hugely involved with their corner success.

Tony Cascarino:

“The big miss for Liverpool is Gini Wijnaldum, who left a big hole when he went to PSG. Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago do not do the same job, especially against big physical opposition such as Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek for West Ham.”

"The key reason why they are not as strong as they have been is that the midfield ‘dogs of war’ are more like dogs of straw at the moment.”

“The three playing in there used to be so relentless and aggressive that they made it really hard for opponents to get at Liverpool. Now the centre halves are exposed.”

[Times]

Although, Tony Cascarino.

Damn I’ve missed my true vocation. If I had become a pro footballer I could have kicked a bag of air all day for a little while, retire, and then talk utter sh**e for the rest of my life, get it published on a weekly basis and be paid for it.

Instead I have to come on here and do it for free. :rage:

JK should just pin that article on the dressing room wall

He’s drowning in hyperbole, but he does have a point no?

Lots of us said that we ‘dunno what we got til it’s gone’ in relation to Gini. People have said Thiago is the ‘Gini replacement’ but even injury-free he’s a different player. Ox will never be good enough. Keita we already knew was gonna be in the treatment room most of the season

Cascarino is the conman that said he was Irish when he was no such thing, so he could go to the world cup in Jack Charlton’s squad… He also that said Nobby Stiles would be disgusted the way Mo falls over so easily when looking for a penalty… What a Knob he comes across as

First half of what?
