Post Match: West Ham - Liverpool (PL; 7/11/21)

All the calls for Kostas was he going to make Mane get involved. That’s problem Robbo is having when Mane isn’t on form he’s offering no help to Robbo.

"It’s all about the ref, it’s all about the ref. The ref is always right. I don’t know, it’s not man-marking, it’s blocking the goalkeeper. That’s what teams do. The goalie has no real opportunity to sort that situation because if he pushes a player away [and] makes himself space then it’s a foul of the goalie and that’s then a different problem. We had a couple of goals already this year – Brentford against Arsenal where I said this was a foul and they clipped the arm of the goalie in that moment. Not a lot of people saw it like I saw it, to be honest – football people, yes, but all the rest around obviously not and especially not the referees. For the goalies it is really difficult [and] this will happen much more often if they don’t intervene. It is, for me, a clear foul and the goalie is the loneliest person on the pitch in this moment because nobody helps him, he just gets attacked and in the end the ball is in and he looks a bit dumb and that’s it."- Klopp

Brighton showed Konate isn’t ready for Premier league yet.

I agree doesn’t seem suited as player to come on struggles to get to pace of game.

West Ham are a good team. They fought hard and got the win. The first goal should not have stood, as Alisson was clearly being impeded. And Mane could easily have tied it up at the death.

Great Trent free kick.
Great Div control, turn and finish.

Apart from that, no one is bossing this league as it appears there are a number of teams who can take points off each other.

Frustrating, but we will come again.

And Div? The enigma that is Divok Origi! Put himself about. Scored a cracking goal.

Newcastle should be offering £50M.

Are you implying Mane is the reason why Robertson has been ordinary for a long while now?

I don’t believe he’s helping situation no gone have days they were linking up well. There own form is effecting the other.

Couldn’t agree more. West Ham played at a higher gear throughout the game, even though they had less recovery time.

This isn’t the first time the team looked devoid of energy either. It was evident against Brighton as well and the number of muscle injuries lately is another indicator, although no one knows if they are a contributing factor or a byproduct.

They’ve both been ordinary for a while, Tsimikas has played with Mane on the pitch, I dont see that affecting his performance.

His all round performance has been below par both defensively and offensively, thats not all on Mane.

Sorry but what has Kostas done which is so amazing for this hype hes getting. Granted he’s played well but way people are going on you would think he was prime Roberto Carlos.

There’s a bit of straw clutching going on. Everyone wants there to be an easy remedy to our problems.

Their first goal is an odd and frustrating one. In an open play situation keepers seem the be overly protected.

Think back to van Dijk versus De Gea a couple of seasons back at Old Trafford when Firmino scores but it gets ruled out as a foul by VAR. Those types of situations are almost always called a foul even if it’s the keeper who initiates contact with the outfield player.

But at corners, it seems the bar for a foul is far higher and opposition players can obstruct and restrict keepers with no real intention of competing for the ball and that’s all okay.

As always, the infuriating part is the lack of consistency in the application of the laws, the lack of communication from officials about the decisions and the lack of accountability for making poor decisions.

Surely obstruction of the goalie in their box is a foul

Just change 1 player and all will go well!

Btw what is/are our problems?

I couldn’t see anything wrong with their 1st goal even after many replays showing lots of different angles. My commentators couldn’t decide. Just looked like Alisson belly flopped which I must admit is very unlike him (even when he was fat).

He has done well enough on current form to start ahead of Robbo, if you can’t see what he has been doing then go watch the games again.

You would have thought wouldn’t you. Same with one against Burnley a while back.

If their player hasn’t touched the ball but impedes the keeper with their physical contact then its surely a foul.

Shit refereeing and shit use of VAR to not say it’s a clear error.

I’ve watched it numerous times and there is clearly an arm in his face.
