Post Match | Wolves vs. Liverpool | 16/09/2023

4 wins out of 5 and we’ve been trailing in the first 10 minutes in 3 of them. It’s a great sign that we are managing to come from behind but we need to cut out the poor starts which sometimes extend to entire halfs like this one. This one was an abomination during which we didn’t look like we were ready to play from the get go. Klopp must take some responsibility here just as he takes the credit for turning things around at the halftime. What was he thinking starting Mac Allister? Anyway, all it took was a good second half after Klopp’s adjustments to come away 3 precious points.

Loved Robertson’s goal, it reminded me of him 3-4 years ago when he looked that he would literally run through a wall. Delighted with Elliott’s contribution from the bench again. He is having a nice season so far. And Salah as well. Another two assists.

Jota and mac very poor first half, coupled with confusing decision to have Gomez try and play like TAA.

Change of shape, Diaz on, we were humming second half. Any more games without Trent i hope we start 4-2-3-1.

Fantastic win coming off international break with tough first half

Quansah looked very composed on the ball, not shy in possession at all. He’s ready for that part of it. Tough with Neto, but looked a touch slow in one on one situations, jury still out there, but good all around and he’ll be pleased with how he did. Well done to the lad.

To be fair, although Wolves are shit, ‘ball carrying’ is their strength. Most centre backs are going to look troubled if isolated against them.

Job done. Early kick off after a lot of travel for many of them, and we all know our poor record under the circumstances. It was therefore important to start with the same intensity as Wolves, but that didn’t happen. They put everything into the first half and we were a good yard off the pace.

Still, at only 1-0 it was all to play for.

Jurgen made the right changes and we ran out as worthy winners, comfortable in the end.

Two things struck me. First, the depth of the squad meant that even in tricky circumstances, with 3 of the 4 first choice defenders not starting, and other lads dead on their feet, we had enough about us to make changes and get the job done.

Second, mentality. We dug in and got the three points, when perhaps previously there would have been occasions when we folded. The mentality is coming back, and it will put us in great stead.

I am convinced that there will be plenty of games this season when we click and absolutely hammer teams. As we build up to that, with the new team that is emerging, it is crucial that we pick up enough points to stay up there. So far so good.

A quick word on Quansah. I thought we would have 3 choices, and I clicked his name first, so there you have it, my MOTM! First Prem start and he did well. Cramp at the end, but he went to his physical limit and did everything asked of him, which augurs well for his continued development.

I think we understand now why a new CB wasn’t quite the emergency everyone thought it was.

missed the game but delighted we won after going behind so early in the first half. Nice to be sitting on top and hopefully we can stay there until the end of the season

Missed this one, as I was out having another expensive lunch.

Excellent result, but how did we play?

You have to make me feel jealous. What did you have btw ?

Played like United in the first half , played like Liverpool in the second.

I think the players respond after Klopp’s bollocking at half time. I’d rather see us getting into full gear quicker.

First half I missed 35 mins of it and thankfully as watching it back I lasted about 15 mins of it.

Second half the changes added the impetus and then we pushed on to get the win, only one team winning that after the equaliser. Maca was a mistake and one I thought he may make and the thinking I suppose was get him through the intense game today and rest for Thursday.

Quansah played well and the change in formation helped Gomez. Salah again shows how silly it would have been to get rid being involved constantly in that second half.

I have no real worries after that a game we would have probably lost last season.

Dreadful first half.

Improved when Diaz repalaced Mac Allister at half time. Improved futher when Elliot and Nunez replaced Gakpo and Jota.

Deserved the win in the end.

Interesting that it was Dom who seemed to drop in and take over the duties of dictating from deep once Mac went off. For someone who arrived as somewhere between an auxiliary/wide forward and attacking mod that is a nice adaptation for him.

One Star food safety rating first half. Michelin stars second half.

1st half was so bad, no tactic and noone taking responsibility that I didn’t watch the second half. Glad we won but something needs changing before we get into real trouble imo!
