I personally think its form, or protection from even more criticism. I can’t really argue definitively either way. The lineup is solid, and should take advantage of Chelsea’s weakened side, not that it ever helps us.

I like the starting lineup. Strong bench as well. Just asking for a controlled game and no disjointed panic in our play.

Slot: Wirtz isnt playing because we’re playing a lot of games and we cannot ask out players to play every time. This is what we tried to address this summer to give ourselves better options to make changes like this to keep key players fresh

Last season Slot played Gravenberch till he could no longer kick the ball let alone pass it and seems to be doing the same this season.

Unless Wirtz is home sick or throwing his toys out the pram about something this doesn’t make any sense.
Germany has two WC qualifiers coming up against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland which he probably needs resting for.

I’m curious to see who will create our chances today. I fear Slot would rather take a step back now because he’s feeling the pressure. I’m not convinced.
Fully agree. Obviously Slot and team know best, but seems so obvious that he needs a couple of 90mins playing in the same position
Wirtz is averaging 76.5 minutes this season, hardly not playing. His performances will have to improve. If that means sometimes starting from the bench, that’ll be it. He’s not gonna be thrown in the cold like Chiesa last season.
Mac is starting because he’s more important at the moment and more proven.

Maybe it’s a dutch connection thing I don’t get it as well. Maybe Slot wants safety first or something but it doesn’t feel right for me.
