Sky Deutschland used to do this on Premier League games but they swapped it to have the English commentary on the second channel.
Commentary is one of the biggest rackets going. You’re unwanted and unnecessary, and somehow you’ve managed to convince the broadcasters you’re an essential part of the experience.
If you were at the game and the lad sat next to you insisted on talking through the whole thing, telling you what you were already watching, even down to what player has the ball and what they are doing with it, you’d tell him to shut the fuck up.
The other week I was watching a game and the commentary feed went off for ten minutes. It was bliss. When it came back, they were apologising like it was some massive downgrade in the service they’d offered.
Often, especially if it’s Neville, I’ll just turn off the sound and watch in complete silence.
