Pre Match. Liverpool vs Barnsley. FA Cup 3rd Round. 12.01.26. 1945 hrs

A Premier League team like Arsenal last night you mean?

It’s a home game against a side that are 17th in League One. We should be rotating for this completely.

Yeah was a nice win.

So, why didn’t we beat Palace in the League Cup? You think Slot will go any stronger than that if we reach the Fourth Round?

You said we’d crash out against a PL team. If that was a cup game we wouldn’t have.

I think you can choose to continue to be overly negative or carry on with some hope that things might get better. Neither attitude will have any impact on results but the latter is a far nicer way to be.

I prefer to stay realistic while others prefer naivety.

Even without the injuries we won’t be able to compete for more than one competition during a week. Slot has killed all the squad depth with his approach.

Haven’t lost away in the PL since late October. You think we’ll get dumped out of we draw a PL team in the next round. But you think you’re the realistic one?

Give me hopefully naive over desperately defeatist any day. If for no other reason than you don’t have to invent things to keep thinking up ways to try and make yourself and others feel miserable.

Lost 3-0 at the Emptyhad November 11th. Who’s inventing stuff and acting as if every draw is a win.

2 wins (against decimated West Ham and Spurs) and 3 draws away from home in the PL - with our strongest 11.

Ok. We’re winning the FA Cup

Apologies, I missed it.

And yes, maybe we will win the FA Cup. It’s also not the end of the world if we don’t but it’s nice to think we might instead of giving up before we even start.

We’re not. Maybe I will be able to tell you why after the draw on Monday :face_blowing_a_kiss:

I’m sure that Arne and his team will know the personel, tactics and formation to see us through this game. COYR YNWA :+1:

Imagine wanting your team not to win so you can come gloat to a stranger on the internet.

The draw is before our match starts on Monday and I expect us to beat Barnsley.

The problem will be one of the next two rounds and the approach of our head coach as seen in the League Cup at Home vs Palace.

You’re talking about a problem caused by the manager in a fixture that as yet doesn’t even exist. And you don’t think that’s unnecessarily negative?

Life’s too short so l’ll leave you to your make believe misery. All the best.

Based on that Plymouth debacle…

Excellent.

Unless you get relegated, it’s one of our biggest aims so I can’t say it would be anything but excellent.

Thing with the League cup is it fills your fixture list up like no other. My only complaint on that team was the lack of lads off the bench then again it wouldn’t have much mattered.

Losing to Plymouth was more of an issue.

Funny how time and opinion changes.

There were times when Klopp was criticized by some for his domestic cup approaches and results. For example, in 16/17, we faced Claude Puel’s Southampton side in 4 games and scored 0 goals (and a total of 10 shots on target). Karius pulling out wonders to keep the score 1-0 in the first SF leg.

In some early rounds of some competitions, it’s true that we weren’t lucky with the draw. And the Villa case in 2020 was perhaps a once in a lifetime situation.

Then, also as the squad got better (not to forget that we often had issues with injuries, I don’t remember many seasons or periods in seasons when we had few injuries), he got criticized by some for going stronger and trying to win a few more of those (which we did), downplaying the importance of them.

15/16: FA Cup 4th round (West Ham away), League Cup runner up (City)
16/17: FA Cup 4th round (Wolves at home), League Cup semi final (Southampton)
17/18: FA Cup 4th round (WBA at home), League Cup 3rd round (Leicester away)
18/19: FA Cup 3rd round (Wolves away), League Cup 3rd round (Chelsea at home)
19/20: FA Cup 5th round (Chelsea away), League Cup quarter final (Villa away)
20/21: FA Cup 4th round (United away), League Cup 4th round (Arsenal at home)
21/22: FA Cup winners, League Cup winners
22/23: FA Cup 4th round (Brighton away), League Cup 4th round (City away)
23/34: FA Cup quarter final (United away), League Cup winners

Our squad depth in 21/22:

Alisson
Trent Matip vDijk Robertson
Henderson Fabinho Thiago
Salah Firmino Mane

Kelleher
Milner Konate Gomez Tsimikas
Jones Keita
Chamberlain Minamino Diaz
Jota

Extra senior players: Adrian, Karius, Phillips (loaned out in January), R. Williams (recalled from loan in January) N. Williams, Elliott, Origi.

Not mentioning other, I think at the time not yet full time senior players who have played some games like Bradley, Morton, Gordon (I think he might have trained with the first team full time then), etc.

A time when Klopp said how Jota told him mid-season that it’s great we’re in all competitions, because we have too many players who would be unhappy if we didn’t have all those games.

Amazing season, a few goals short of the quadruple.
