I did…within the time limit…and still they took it…
Looking forward to seeing how Isaak is integrated into the team. Hopefully he get 15-20 minutes in and then maybe more in the games that follow.
I thought the Carabao was next week.
Yeah you can rotate and then can basically hope for the best.
I was there…horrible night and result, compounded by Covid uncertainty at the time..
We did beat them twice in 2021/22 in the group stage though.
Playing against a pack of hyenas, I would protect the likes of Leoni, Curtis, Nyoni and Nghouma. They are young and will fall prey to that lot. Similar to what Kerkez was going through at Burnley.
Julian Alvarez missing for them along with centre-back Jose Maria Gimenez, midfielder Johnny Cardoso, forward Thiago Almada and winger Alex Baena.
I don’t expect us to go from Isak having 0 minutes and not being on the bench, to getting serious minutes after a few days. I guess we might see more of him in the League Cup game.
He might get 10-15 mins tomorrow - depends on the game state.
I would start
Alisson
Bradley Gomez Virgil Robbo
Szobo Grav
Wirtz
Salah Ekitike Gakpo
Sub in Frimpong for Salah
Endo for Grav
Ngumoha for Gakpo
Kerkez for Robbo
Isak for Ekitike
Should be good enough to beat Atletico.
Wasn’t the whole idea of leaving Isak out Sunday, so that we’d bring him in for 45mins? Arne mentioned he doesn’t have plans to use him for 10-15mins here and there but rather wait until such time he’s able to play 45.
Pretty sure that pre-Burnley he said something like he needs time, don’t be surprised if he doesn’t play 90 minutes or we bring him on with only a short time before the end. 45 minutes is a lot and we’re into competition mode, it’s not pre-season time that you plan HT changes in advance (regardless of how the game is going). Wouldn’t make much sense to go from 20 minutes for Sweden (being his first minutes of the season), 0 for Liverpool to 45 for Liverpool. If he said something else, he probably wanted to say that he might choose not to select him at times if it’s only for 5-10 minutes, before he’s ready for serious minutes (30 or more). And I wouldn’t expect it to be the case after just a few days.
Yeah he said he plans to play him for 45 and perhaps a bit longer once a week for the meantime.
I have been playing too much FM24!!
Sure it works in the game ![]()
To be fair I can see the argument of Gomez or maybe Endo (The full backs are rotating themselves anyhow) Hopefully Rio is given minutes here, like 20 or so.
They’ve started this season terribly and gone are the days when they were a serious threat in Europe. Expect them to make it a niggly game but we’ll win comfortably in the end and hopefully will escape without anybody ending up in the ICU.
Form and injuries can be an important factor, but I have no doubt we’ll give them the respect they deserve. It’s the first CL game, we’re at home, it’s early in the season and there certainly isn’t room for calculations (which might happen down the line with more changes once we’re in a good position). Maybe there will be a change or two (like Bradley and Robbo starting and/or Wirtz being benched), but I don’t expect more than that.
