Winds like that might prematurely demolish Goodison…just listening to the radio merseyside forecast for tomorrow and it is warning of structural damage… I would not want to be in goal tomorrow dealing with crosses
Good question. I’m just going off what other people said about this situation. I don’t actually know what makes him so much inferior a player to the other options. From my observations he’s not too bad on the ball, just less skilled at playing through the press than Jones or Gravenberch are. His passing isn’t poor, but he looks to be more conservative with it.
That’s just from my recollection though.
I presume the relevant stereotype is that he’s a specialist defensive midfielder, one who grabs the ball off others and then funnels it to another one of our players to move on, rather than actually doing anything with it himself. I don’t know myself.
But supposing that is the case, and that he can’t actually play differently to that, then it makes sense that we would only really play him in situations where we’re having troubles recovering the ball in front of our defence and stopping attacking plays, which isn’t something we’ve really faced in recent games.
A postponement would suit me fine. The match will finish at about 1am here and I have to be up at 7.
More time for our crocks to recover too.
Just make a point for all their bravado we will have potentially 3 scouse players in our team to their none.
Isn’t Elliot of scouse blood?
Jarell
He’s from Warrington. Not a real Scouser.
He’s from Surrey. Not sure about his father as apparently he was a Liverpool fan.
I am from Surrey and a Liverpool fan.
But I am not Harvey’s father.
Grandad? My mistake anyhow more scousers that than fake “peoples club”.
Shame, he could have bought you a few nice bottles for the cellar.
I bollocksed up the press conference time earlier. It starts at 13:15. 2 minutes time.
Maybe you should have specified timezones…
Bloody honorary foreigners.
Kelleher gets a chance to redeem himself (and at least not have to let his last moment be that horrendous moment). Alisson not ready yet but expected imminently.
No, I’m not
You’ve answered yourself a good part of the reason. Not being bad on the ball vs being at least good enough for Liverpool, under a different manager who values it more or differently than the previous manager, is a difference.
I would hope that he could be more useful for us this season because we don’t have a lot of options for the double-pivot positions (for which so far, I’m not including Szobo or Elliott, because we haven’t seen them yet under Slot in that midfield structure).
But sometimes these cases are simple: he’s not quite good enough for this level. And it’s possible for such players to do okay for a certain period, under different circumstances and coaching, but it won’t last long. In his case, it’s not only quality and style, the level he’s used to, but also age and stage of career.
Shock revelation in press conference as Arne confirms Gravenberch will start tomorrow.
In all seriousness, I think what I heard from the press conference is that injuries-wise, only the three in defence are a little further away (RIP Robertson), with Jota, Chiesa, and Alisson really close now. We knew that about the latter two I guess, so the news about Jota is welcome.
