I love possession football, but this idea of a CB putting his foot on the ball to draw out a team doesn’t work when a team is happy with a draw or are 1 up.
Move the ball and have intelligent running with quck give and go’s and that will effect their shape.
Same in the final 3rd but we also need players to go past their man.
Haven’t kept up with the thread but the game is largely as we should have expected. Forest are incredibly smart and disciplined in terms of when and what to contest meaning there is very little space to to get in behind or around them. Still we’ve had a handful of half openings that just need better composure and quality when presented.
A disastrous first half. Everything went against us. Especially the early goal for Forest was a killer, and our lads lost their mojo completely after that. The whole team looks stale, tired and to be brutally fair, uninterested.
The only silver lining is that it is only 1-0, and that in theory, we can turn it around. But major improvement will be needed. Not sure the lads have it in themselves tonight, but they have surprised me more than once, so who knows…
Let’s hope for an early equaliser. That would give another taste and direction to that game. Fingers crossed!
We all knew what the set-up would be. Low block, no pressing up front, concede the ball, be in tune with how the game is being refereed (let teh game flow, so Murrillo has been using that to his advantage, with the first 10 minutes a collective fouling on Dom to reduce his impact), and break on the counter.
First attack, goal. Simple. Mourinho would be proud. Then AIna with long throwes eat 30 seconds, and Sels to clean his studs at every goal kick.
As for us, we played intot heir hands. THe best moment was Diaz, who should have released early for a one on one.
Need tweaks at HT. A loss is no good. At a minimum need to salvage a draw.
When are our defenders going to stop this walking football. Pundits are praising opposition for getting back in their shape so well but it’s taking defenders an eternity to get out of our own half. Apart from the goal neither keeper has had nothing at all to do. What another shitshow.
Lack of any precision. Forest is inviting us to come at them but we are not picking out the right runs and players. Long shots might be the answer because they are allowing us all the way to the edge of the box but yet we are shooting trash tonight so far.
You jest but it Feels like it
From potentially 9 clear…to maybe 3 if Arsenal win.
Weve hit a slump at the wrong time.
Players look cluless.
Theyve known about forest and how they play yet have played into their hands with slow backwards play and conceeding on the counter. …the 1st one!
This performance sums us up of late. Poor going forward, slow in midfield and leaking at the back.
I actually thought that Murillo defended that well as Diaz had to time that pass to put Gakpo clear and Murillo knew it and stuck his foot out at the right time, so a bit of both
For the goal Konate is midfield and strolling back like hes nipped for a bottle of milk and Allison who looks so big and slow gets no where near the shot.
The shoot on sight policy in the first 10 minutes backfired. MOst of the long shots were 10 yards too far and into the stands. Needed to at least test teh keeper once.
