Prematch | Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool | PL Matchday 21 | Tuesday January 14th 20:00h

@jaffod made a statement regarding Clough several times before. Because he chooses to not buy into the Clough as after dinner routine stuff doesn’t make him miserable.

Your comment about people having no enjoyment in life is a bit over the top.

Personally, I see Clough as a bully that Pearce, Crossley and the rest were afraid of. And they turned their abject cowardice into comedy.
If thats your cup of tea, fair play. Enjoy…

Times were different then. You could say what you wanted and people weren’t as offended as today. Thicker skin from people born just after the war maybe? If Clough thought you were shit he would tell you. Nowt wrong with that young man! Sometimes things just need to be said.
Now of course people are offended as soon as they open their eyes in the morning.

My problem with Clough is reflected in the articles I attached.

His behaviour towards Liverpool people was abhorrent.

Brian Clough was arrogant bully. Just the kind of man who would make a snap judgement about a football disaster without being in position if the facts, and then stubbornly cling to that misinformed opinion despite the evidence mounting up around him.

Just read the above article. Yeah silly thing to say but it was in 1994 - ill give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t know all the facts and for some stupid chose to believe what people had told him rather than actually do a bit of research. But still, a really stupid thing to say in a book without researching!.

I have read the articles above, and a lot more besides. Have you?

What comes across from those articles is a stubborn refusal to acknowledge his mistakes and amend his opinion.

His eventual retraction came after pressure from a magazine he had just signed a contract with was being criticised for taking him on. I have no doubt he went to his grave privately believing the offensive nonsense he had been peddling up to that point.

Don’t preach to me.

I do enjoy it and Jaffod only mentioned “about the drunken cunt”

Not everyone knows every story, so yes he does come across as being miserable.

And I will enjoy the stories because of the way Crossley tells them.

I’m not the one preaching, you using that is irony at its best.

Enjoy what you like, knock yourself out.

Can’t we go back to the shit puns?

Much better than pointless arguing about someone who has been dead for twenty years.

I haven’t read any articles, but some on here having a go at what people are saying or thinking about scousers are just as bad and call many other people c#$@s etc.

Kettle calling the pot black or what

Wasn’t at you it was a reply to Mascot, so get it right

Your reply was to me.

Edit
Check back and get it right. You directed the comment to me.

Read the articles, do some thinking about glorifying a man who continually blamed Liverpool supporters for Hillsborough despite the compelling evidence to the contrary.

He wasn’t the lovable rogue portrayed by ex players. In an interview with Clive Anderson he denigrated the entire city of Liverpool with his acerbic comments.

A man in his position constantly blaming the wrong people in such circumstances doesn’t equate to a few on here calling each other cunts or whatever.

In fact, on a Liverpool supporters site that we are giving this man any credence is in my view reprehensible.

No mate.
I won’t be preached to about Brian Clough.
I won’t accept him as a great character from some misinformed Hovis ad and deified as a great story maker. I will bow to people like Phil Scratton and John Aldridge on this one.

I remember there was some apprehension how Nigel would be treated due to his father’s ill informed, offensive and downright reprehensible comments about Hillsborough. Thankfully the supporters were able to separate father and son.

There are some on the surface some humouros anecdotes about Clough but a lot involve him either being drunk or intimidating.

In my opinion he’s responsible for the long held belief that Liverpool fans were the major contributing factor to Hillsboroughand for that, he will remain a prick.

I’ll try and catch some of Crossley’s stuff later, try and cheer myself up a bit although I fear I might be a lost cause.
Maybe Kelvin McKenzie did a bit of stand-up you can point me in the direction of, post it on here so we can all have a good laugh.
You know fuck all about me fella so don’t judge me on here, especially regarding my views on cunts like Clough.

Alternatively we could discuss tonight’s important football match, whilst here on the match thread :man_shrugging:t2:

The thread was derailed with stupid puns earlier. My responses on Clough were made because I was annoyed. I won’t ever apologise for telling the truth about a man who is incorrectly deified and seen in a positive light. Not when he behaved as he did.

But you are correct, this is a very important match. My nerves are shredded waiting for it.

I’m feeling nervous about it too. Have been really calm in all our games this season. Compared to last year, after Klopp’s announcement, when every match was stressful.

I’d love to see us start fast and nick an early goal which would make them come out of their shell a little. I do worry about their counterattack if it’s still 0-0 in the second half
