Premier League 2020/21 (Part 1)

I actually said charity work not donations. And loads of people do work tirelessly for others. Wasn’t knocking Rashford just saying.

How many fouls will Rodri get away with now and still not receive a second yellow card?

Over/under is 9.5

Yeah I pretty much agree with @Magnus all the time but the Suarez/Bruno comparison is the one rare time I can’t. That said, I’m also a Suarez stepford so very few players compare to him in my eyes. Even with his shithousery he’s one of the best to ever do it and certainly one of my favorites to ever wear the Liverpool shirt. Luis is/was the embodiment of madness. Sheer ruthlessness and absolute chaos.

Bruno couldn’t even clean Luis’ boots.

The comparison isn’t one of style or ability, but in their talismanic nature. We relied massively on Suarez, but I think United are even more heavily reliant on their Portuguese rodent than we were on Luis.

Oh yeah. Agreed!

Something that can not be said about Bruno is that he is making his team mates better.

Suarez made Gerrard 5 years younger and made Jon Flanagan look like a world beater.

Talisman this, Talisman that. The comparison between Suarez and Bruno is ridiculous.

Alright alright, fair dues. Settle down, shit. I didn’t mean anything by it la…

I’m not sure you can deny that Bruno has transformed the team and at the very least made them relevant again, much in the same way Suarez did for us. I expect the effect to be fleeting, just as it was for us with Suarez.

It’s the nature of it.

I have a particular problem with a lot of charity work, in that it’s usually trying to put a sticking plaster on societal problem caused by a failure of government policy.

So many charities refuse to engage in political campaigning, and that’s mostly because Government has them by the balls through the politicised (and currently very hawkish) Charity Commission, which decrees that campaigning for political change cannot sit alongside ‘charitable work’. So most will content themselves with raising money or pastoral work without trying to actually solve the problem at the roots, and earning a slap on the back and a well done from the politicians who are creating (or failing to tackle) the very problem they are fundraising for.

I believe that charity without also campaigning for lasting, meaningful change is pointless (and can in some cases be damaging in its own way). The mission statement of any charity should be to demand their own redundancy.

I’m not aware of another footballer who is doing so much to attacking the shit policies that create poverty, rather than raising or giving money. The lad is an inspiration, as not only is he taking on the Government and wiping the floor with them on a matter of national importance, he is also showing a generation of young people that it’s good to be politically engaged and campaign for social justice.

I know plenty of footballers do plenty of charitable work, but Rashford is different in that he is so much more proactive. It would be easy for him to donate to a food bank, and do some media encouraging others to do the same. Instead he sees the value and importance of making poverty a political struggle. He is absolutely right about this, and that’s why I think he’s great. It’s sad to see people bantering him with the St Rashford shit. On this matter it’s irrelevant who he plays for.

Come on you Barcodes, and up The Sheff!

Also on Rashford, I really love how the MBE he was given in a transparent attempt to pacify him and shut him up, has only spurred him to double his efforts.

2 boring games on.

Hopefully this Newcastle team shows up next week but you know they probably will at least pretend to play that night.

Shitty 2-0, Torres.

No - sorry. The word ‘relevant’ is too strong here.

Everytime I watch them I see strange decisions go for them and they would still be lower midtable without all the penalties.

De Gea has his worst year ever. Pogba is still shit. Martial is still shit. Maguire is still shit. Rashford looked much better under Mourinho.

The reason why they are third is that this is probably the weakest PL of the decade - Covid is also playing its part here.

Sheffield Utd didn’t deserve that.

Wilder has made three changes already.

I’m wondering why he isn’t using his other two subs :smiling_imp:

I see it very differently. I think Fernandes has clearly made the rest of the players around him much better. Martial is unstable, but not shit. Rashford is a bit on an off but a good striker. Many United fans are of the opinion that Solskjær has improved the strikers, I haven’t actually read a United fan saying the opposite.
The stuff about them being midtable without strange ref decisions isn’t true. That’s the subjective Liverpool fan in you talking surely.

But in any case, I never truly compared Suarez skill to Fernandez or Grealish. My primary point, the important bit, was that Suarez antics were much worse. Then I also clearly said that neither were as good as Suarez

You last paragraph is absolutely spot on, but that is the same for all teams.
