Premier League 2021/22 (Part 1)

You do realise deaths is a trailing indicator right? They tend to follow the trend of cases maybe a month later.

This is unfortunately a fallacy, been hearing that for a long while now, and don’t even think 100% vaccination rates + 1 booster will get us there.

Cases in the UK have been very elevated since July. We’re talking about people in the prime of their life who may avail themselves of vaccines proven to greatly minimize their already very low chance of a serious case. These testing protocols for athletes (we have them in the U.S.,too) are ridiculous, especially in comparison to how the majority of people are living.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I think it’s too premature to be cancelling games en masse yet, but we also need to be cautious. And definitely look into playing with reduced numbers of spectators at least.

Pause and put the protocol’s in place this is more infecting with younger people.

I think the PL will fuck themselves over on this, they can’t say play on if teams are isolating, regardless how serious it is or not to the players.

I’d be gutted if there is no Xmas football to be fair but if we continue that’s what’s going happen, if we’ve had a couple of cases we will have more within days. Both Leicester and Spurs saw it.

Yeah this years BL winter break goes from 17-19/12 thru 07-09/01. It is an ideal break for what it happening at this time. We’ve also reduced the number of fans allowed in stadiums and many precautions in place.

Going back to my original post on my observations in the States, now given further thought my comments may have been short-sighted. It’s interesting (and equal part troubling) to see how different parts of the world are dealing with this recent surge. Also appears to be affecting the world to differing degrees. Public safety is always top priority.

EDIT: all of that said, my initial cynicism stemmed from (my perception) PL clubs could potentially be using this as a means for advantage, whatever those advantages may be.

Four more weekend PL games off

Big news in from the Premier League - a further four matches have been called off this weekend.

Southampton v Brentford, Watford v Crystal Palace and West Ham United v Norwich City on Saturday are gone.

So too is Sunday’s game between Everton and Leicester.

Manchester United v Brighton had already been called off.

That leaves five top-flight games this weekend.

If we return to empty stadiums which seems more and more likely by the day, I’m pretty certain I’ll switch off and not follow until the fans return, like I did in the tail end of our title winning season. That’s not me throwing the toys out of the pram. Just that football without fans is not really worth watching.

Easier for those teams not involved in Europe to catch up with the fixtures next year…
So from mid March, Utd will have loads of time on their hands :0)

I think that is possible for me, although the other major reason I just tuned out last season was simply how poor the quality of play was, from players/teams you knew were better than that. I do think there was a link to the empty stands, but other factors contributed to it. I’d probably watch a short interval of games (3-4 weeks) played in empty stadiums over this looming period.

If they stop it, take January, just saying :innocent:

I don’t see how our match against Spurs can go ahead given they have a significant number of players out and have had two matches already postponed

Stop from tomorrow until the end of Jan.

I would expect more cases to crop up with us, it’s done with other teams so I expect Spurs will be postponed now.

Chelsea also have 4 cases plus Havertz who is awaiting his results but feeling unwell.

So expect that one to go this weekend and if we have some none diagnosed cases we might pass it on to Newcastle.

Everton could be spanked today.

Vaccines plus lots of exposure to people in unprotected situations (as is the case in a lot of places now) is a recipe for more transmission and therefore more cases than no exposures among the unvaccinated.

When we see cases sky rocketing like they are right now something has to be done to break that transmission chain. Getting more people up to date on their vaccines with boosters will be part of that, but vaccinations were only ever part of the solution and we have to adapt as situations change.

Everton survive to halftime at 0-0 with just 19% possession. Seems Rafa has finally gotten the message through. Defend first.

0-0 with 19% possession. Good man Rafa.

Well done Rafa, 1-1.

Good result between league winners there. Everton seeking revenge on Chelsea for usurping them after they won the league in September and Chelsea fighting hard after winning back to back league titles in October and November.
