I am usually more hopeful.
But I am currently despondent.
I simply cannot see them dropping points too much, or more importantly I cannot see us not dropping points.
Utd have a habit of getting results against them, Tuchel also but we have to be near perfect which I do not see especially with losing 3 players to Afcon. But I ain’t giving up until its mathematically impossible for us to win it.

They are one of the more impressive sides Ive seen this season. As I said in another post the other day, I think our draw with them was possibly the only result this season (someone else mentioned West Ham but I genuinely cannot remember it) where we dropped points we deserved to drop. I thought not only did they fully deserve their point, but that they were arguably the better side that day. If they could get their hands on a West Brom era Lukaku to score the goals their play deserves they’ve be challenging for the European place I think.

I just read for the first time that in the prem the rules for isolation are different for non-vaccinated players. Yet no consideration is given regarding postponements for the impact of non-vaccinated on the absences a team has. This seems like a ball that has been dropped.
Several people have commented already that the line being drawn is the wrong one…it should not be based on players available (because that allows you to factor in players unavailable for completely unrelated issues), but absences specifically due to covid. For example, if a squad is allowed 25 players and you want them to be able to field 14 players, then the line should be more than 11 players out with covid = postponment. If you have 10 players out and 4 our with injury, then you need to use your kids to make up for the non-covid absences.
Furthermore, they use a similar approach to the NFL. I dodnt remember the exact rule, but basically a team has leeway to reschedule a game, but if their inability to fulfil a fixture is because of unvaccinated players then its an automatic forfeit. The idea being that the feeling of being responsible for your team mates will result in hesitant players getting vaxxed so they are not the reason for picking up an L. I think we could - should - do something similar. 11 players unavailable because of covid, but 6 of them are in additional protection protocol because they’re not vaccinated? Ok, that counts as only 5 players out. If you now cannot fulfil the fixture you dont get a postponement you get an automatic 3-0 loss and we move on.
Dunno, was only about 3 cases of players I didn’t recognise.

I wouldn’t say I was bursting with optimism but the season is far from over, and I still genuinely fancy us for the CL. For some footy fans, looking on the dark side increases the buzz when things go unexpectedly well and eases the pain when they don’t. It’s just human nature! Personally, I prefer to try to just accept whatever happens. We could really do with winning our game against them though
