Yeah this is the main point for me. After all this time, I still can’t figure out what is a foul and what isn’t in the Premier League. Not sure that referees have either.
“Many of the best players in the world compete in leagues in England and Spain, and we believe these countries also share the responsibility to preserve and protect the sporting integrity of competitions around the world.”
…and where’s your responsibility to protect the players, you fuckwit???
Should have scrapped your money-spinners Copa and Euro and held the qualifiers in Jun/Jul.
That ruling FIFA have about releasing players… OR ELSE
Was ok about five decades ago when you could buy the best striker around for less than 100k
The value of todays players requires a rethink to the old rule book
I find it interesting that FIFA is appealing to the government to relax quarantine rules for players rather than threaten the clubs/leagues with sanctions if the players aren’t released.
It would be interesting to see the numbers on how much competitions like the PL and CL have encroached on the dominance of World Cup viewership. Say over the past 20 years, 5 year intervals.
So it seems they have no power, I do wonder if it’s to do with restrictions.
The problem remains there is a global pandemic something they seem oblivious to and have done since project restart it seems.
Considering the way Infantino was with UEFA they aren’t going step in and do your bidding.
As for “sporting integrity” seriously after that Copa America no one can talk about “sporting integrity”, moved from its hosts because they were concerned about Covid to Brazil the worst possible option, then several had to pull out due to Covid and it ended up with two groups of 5 in which 4 qualified after mostly they dullest excuses for matches possible.
All culminating in the supposed best two teams fighting in what was a dubious setting in which fans weren’t allowed in but Brazil could somehow find about 3k from families to attend.
Yeah sporting integrity
How much was Bolosarno’s bung and was that sporting integrity?
Clubs would probably have cited that they were just following the quarantine rules were set by the government. So FIFA has no choice but to write to the policy owner to reconsider the stance.
In contrast, the policy owners of the ESL are the clubs themselves. FIFA could directly impose sanctions for non compliance.
Hope the UK government does not accede to the request. A more plausible outcome would be to ask all international matches to be played in the UK or other non red listed countries instead. This might involve some re scheduling of the home/away fixtures or deals with TV companies.
