Premier League 2021/22 (Part 2)

Still not over for the league, obvs, but we are running out of runway.

With Watford, Leeds and Newcastle getting hammered the goal difference means that City will now have to drop points in two of their last three games. I don’t think a loss in one game is going to be enough. Going to be a tough sell, that.

Resurgent Sandcastle my sandy ass. :face_vomiting:

Enjoy it City, enjoy it.

They can choke on it if they do win it. Cheating cunts, they are literally stealing our titles.

I knew Newcastle would get destroyed.

Believe!

Wolves were a bit of a thorn for them in recent years and we’re at the end of a really dodgy decision themselves against Man City in a 1-0 loss earlier this season.

West Ham have a bit of a crap record but did get a point last season against them.

Until we fall out of it it’s not over, let’s see eh.

Believing is good but I hope that while we remain positive we are also fully focused on the finals that remain in our hands

I believe we are allowed to score goals too, and right now is when we really need to be doing that. Starting with Villa. Perhaps Stevie could oblige by ‘resting’ his regular CBs. Southampton are pretty obliging anyway these days and Wolves will have nothing to play for in the last game.
I can see West Ham pulling off a surprise win as they’ll be going all out to overtake Man U and avoid the Euro Conference thing.
Fat lady has not yet sung.

Klopp has won several Bundesliga titles, a European Cup and a PL title I’ll bow to his better judgement.

I really hope we don’t lose the league on goal difference, when it was in our hands to do something about it.

I was ridiculed for asking if we should have scored a few more goals vs Utd at Old Trafford. And in a couple of games where we were dominant, like Arsenal and Everton.
I was told by wise forumites that its about conserving energy at the end of such games, which is complete nonsense.
My argument was that ruthlessness brings goals, and those goals could become important.

Of course draws with Brentford and Brighton, the West Ham game etc are all factors. Spurs away, when Kane should have seen red etc
but we have to accept bad results
no matter what we did on those occasions we could not have effected the season. They just happen.

But we had capacity to score more in certain dominant performances and we eased up.

Aside from this, one of our greatest managers and teams may now lose a second title by a minimal amount to a club that has cheated financially. And are going to get away with cheating. And the records won’t say how great we were, it will say that City were PL Champions.

Winning the CL and FA cup would be a tremendous season, but for me to lose to cheats is the most frustrating element of the PL.
My contention is that in order for Liverpool to win the league they must be beyond excellent, and for the most part they have been. There is no justice in this.

I keep hoping there will be. As they eventually caught up with other cheats of the past I hope their time will come.

The real frustrating part is that everyone knows they’re doing it, they’ve been caught doing it and still can’t make it stick because of legal loop holes.

Arsenal’s win over Leeds yesterday confirms what I was saying in the Spurs post match thread. Even if Spurs beat Arsenal at home they cannot finish above then unless Arsenal drop points in another fixture - with only three games left (Arsenal have Newcastle and Everton left apart from Tottenham).

It was illogical of them to come to Anfield and spend the last 20 minutes minutes time wasting, feigning injury and packing their own penalty area. That HAD to win to keep themselves in the driving seat for 4th place, instead they chose to take a point and leave the rest up to fate. All because they wanted to bragging rights of getting a point at Anfield I guess? Or maybe they just wanted to be able to say they were the team who stopped Liverpool winning the league?

Either way, the game plan was flawed because of the context of the league table. Conte may well be delighted with his very Italian style of play but, as Klopp himself referenced, Tottenham are 5th and that result doesn’t help them get to 4th. Even if they had lost on Saturday it wouldn’t have changed the equation compared to a draw.

We watched a team give up on 4th place then celebrate that as though they just did something great. This isn’t some random bottom half team desperate for anything at Anfield, this is a Spurs side with Son and Kane etc.

Found the whole thing confusing from Spurs. It’s like they didn’t care about their own league position and I for one hope they’re playing in the Europa League next season.

All of this whilst Newcastle decide to roll over for Man City.
Weird.

Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia are allied countries. Their national funds both own a club in the PL.

I’ll say no more.

If Leeds gets relegated, which is now a distinct possibility, I feel Marcelo Bielsa should be the one to blame. I think El Loco is a great coach but he wasn’t the best fit for English football. Leeds was hugely entertaining but their gung-ho style isn’t the way for a team that needs stability. Even in Championship in his first year as manager, Leeds made a great start but then ran out of steam in the latter part of the season.
