Premier League 2022/23 (Part 1)

What a farce of a season.

I want us to play, and I want us to find our groove asap. I miss the footy. Still, if there’s a sense that policing resources are spread too thin with all the activities surrounding the Queen’s death, so be it.

At that point, let’s make the most of it.

It has been well documented that we have started poorly. Apart from the obvious injury woes, we have looked leggy, and not quite at it, approaching too many games at a pre season sort of pace.

A few too many players, big names too, haven’t got near to their own high standards yet either.

And then up front we haven’t found the blend yet, partly exacerbated by the head butt, and partly due to form, personnel - I can’t see Bobby starting many when both Darwin and Jota are fit, and system, as they’ve just looked so spread out, too, with Mo isolated and doubled up on, as Bobby has been deep in the middle (that’s his game) but not such a threat to central defenders in the way that Darwin’s pace would be, which would give Mo some more space to work.

Anyway, all this is to say that an enforced break, albeit with a Champions League game in there, might do us the world of good. One of Klopp’s ‘complaints’ at the sheer quantity of games is that you are always preparing for the next match, and have little time to actually train and improve.

Well, here is some time that we would not have expected to get. I hope we use it wisely!

If we do, and it starts to click again, game on.

Come on you reds.

Can you even call it that in September?

NEWCASTLE UNITED remain determined to sign Loris Karius on a short-term contract, but are understood to be holding off on an official announcement of the goalkeeper’s arrival as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Like I doubt anyone will notice it if you just shove it out lads.

Eddie must’ve really been impressed with that showing when we lost 4-3 at Bournemouth.

Can’t stand Newcastle and I hope it takes them longer than expected to gatecrash the top table.

With that said, good luck to Karius. I hope he finds a gig, plays, and gets his best form back.

Never in Allison’s class and rightly replaced, but before the ill-fated CL final, where he had a concussion, he kept 10 clean sheet in 19 Prem games for us. Again, never world class, and I’m glad we have Allison, but with a fair wind Karius can get back to the level of being a decent Prem keeper.

Double blessing? We’ll take it.

Wow, that is a long rest for us!

It won’t be good after xmas and the World Cup. This season was tight enough.

I really don’t think it’s much of an issue, 2 more midweek and if we don’t progress in the cups it isn’t going matter.

However that Arsenal vs PSV game makes absolutely no sense to be cancelled when you are running Spurs and Brentford.

Stupid decision to call off the past weekend games knowing full well that the next weekend games would be the logistically challenged ones.

Not to mention the ‘sporting integrity’ issue of having clubs like us have to squeeze another game while cheaty don’t have to. Really should have played last week and taken this weekend off if it was necessary ‘as a mark of respect’ or police logistics or whatever. The EPL and FA must really actually want a breakaway superleague.

Yeah last weekends postponements become even dumber in hindsight.

I understand this weeks but last no one will ever know.

Can be no excuses of “tiredness” for a while then :slightly_smiling_face:

Effectively another pre season.

Hopefully a few don’t go on National duties.

Host of them will be on NT duties

Will we be on a relegation spot by the time we play Brighton? :grimacing:

This is good news.

It allows us to get those injured recovered, so more players available, means Klopp has the ability to rotate when needed.
