Premier League 2022/23 (Part 1)

The difference is using Nivea can’t influence matches.

Players betting on games already has led to a large number of cases of spot/match fixing. It is very common in eastern Europe for games to be getting questionable betting patterns. It has already happened in England with Grobbelar and Le Tissier being 2 of biggest names to be inplicated/involved.

Just wondered if he…GS…had an inkling of Toney being charged.

That is why Nivea is not a problematic commercial partner.

But I’d also question if anyone could really get a glimpse of Adam Lallana’s beautifully quaffed hair and glowing under eye skin and not get stopped in their tracks for just long enough for a Brighton striker to get goal side and score.

Really will depend on what he has bet on.

Anything he is involved in and it will be a very long ban, probably a year or two.

If not he might get lucky with the rest of the season.

Good that we’ve yet to face them

So the ban will commence at the final whistle of our game.

I don’t know the rules, but presumably anything a player is involved in would be a huge no-no, since they have the ability to influence the outcome.

Beyond that, is a player allowed to bet on other teams that he is not involved with?

Interesting looking at the England keepers. One, I’m surprised to see pickford that high on the shot stopping. Two, one of the arguments for Ramsdale not being able to oust Pickford for England was his distribution, but there is no difference between them on this.

Sunscreen on one side of the ball is so last century. Sandpaper in the pocket is the way forward

Le Tissier wasn’t just implicated. He owned up to it in his autobiography. He told how some Soton players grouped together and had a spot fixing bet on there being a throw in in the first minute of a certain game of theirs. Soton won the toss and immediately kicked the ball towards the touchline to go out of play. An opposition player kept it in and Le Tissier said that the Soton players played liked men possessed to retrieve the ball and put it out. The ball stayed in play and the bet went down.
I can’t recall the actual words he used but the inference was that for that first minute they’d tried harder than at any time in the season. It sickened me to think that these comparatively rich men would cheat to get a bit more money. As a Soton fan I’d have wondered about every defeat that the team had suffered while these cheats were playing?
As a Reds fan I want us to win everything. Every cup, every game, every tackle, every throw in or corner. If I thought that one of our lads was prepared to even lose one challenge to make a few bob then I’d want them out of the club.

I can’t stand Le Tissier. He may have been a decent player but all I see now is a cheat. :rage::nerd_face:

As i said in the post, implicated/involved as I remember the Le Tissier admition, but could remember if Bruce’s case was actually him being guilty as well, or if it was just his name being mentioned.

Probably should have specified that more clearly in my post

How the hell has Lloris got above average distribution?

His passing for the last year or 2 has been fucking aweful

Different sport but Calvin Ridley was suspended for an entire season and had to forfeit $11m because he placed a few parlay bets on games he didnt play in. Meanwhile every broadcast now has gambling commercials, there are dedicated tv shows for discussing bets to place and the Thursday night game on Amazon even has an option to see the live winning % and odds of each game on an overlay.

To put the NFL into context - Deshaun Watson, who sexually assaulted 20+ women, was suspended 10 games and just so happens his first gzme back is against the team that fired him for those assaults.

Placing bets on games he wasnt playing in: full season suspension.

Sexually assault multiple women and express no remorse after settling out of court: 10 games, and get a ‘revenge’ game against former employer to come back on.

I do find it hypocritical that they make so much money from betting and then take a holier than though approach.

No probs, it’s probably me not reading your post properly.

Here’s a link to Bruce’s story.

England will go out of Qatar through a penalty shootout.
Thats destined.

The best current English player on pens is Ivan Toney. His record is fantastic.

Its inconceivable that Southgate wasn’t instructed to leave him out of the squad, as charges were pending. I think he was nailed on, ahead of Wilson if this wasn’t flagged.

Every time I see that infamous Michael Thomas goal, I’m convinced Grobbelaar threw that match.

It was a relatively easy save.
