When did that Fofana lad pick up football, last week, totally shite ā€¦

Chavs booed off at half time.

He nearly did with the way McKennie manhandled him into the advertising boards :joy:

Very interesting that this slang word has the etymology from the language of the travelling Romani.
While I knew it meant uncouth and vulgar, I didnā€™t know this. I sometimes google unimportant stuff just for fun. Love to learn.

Also, it is very recent in terms of use

I know it as fairground slang, (dadā€™s side of the family were travelling showmen), ā€˜Chavvieā€™ which means ā€˜childā€™.

Yeah, Chavvy is Romani I just read. Interesting how words from unrelated languages over time, can become part of a language.

Edit: I suspect the rise of the usage of the word has something to do with Chelseaā€™s footballing success.

When I was a kid it definitely meant gypsy and was used interchangeably with other gypsy related insults. At some point it seemingly started being used as a more general insult to young men without social status or money. How that came to be associated with Chelsea I dont really get.

Bitters 1-0 fluke goal by Coleman.

What is Meslier doing, though? Too far off his line?

Terrible keeping but Coleman meant it

Get a manager in and quickly, you divvies.

Notba chance he meant it. Just trying to hook it into the box. He had no idea where the keeper was, he was or who was around him.
