Only about 10 years too late, wait for all the Arab regimes to come in own whatever club they chooseâŚruin the game, then implicate the rule. Fantastic.
NEW: Premier League clubs agree new rules that can see owners/directors disqualified for âhuman rights abuses, based on Global Human Rights Sanctions Regulations 2020â. #lfc [@robharris]
canât believe it. what a joke
Amanda Staveley left the barn two years ago
Among other changes, the Premier League also now has the power to block people from becoming directors where they are under investigation for conduct that would result in a âdisqualifying eventâ if proven.
Meanwhile, the list of criminal offences resulting in disqualification has been extended to offences involving âviolence, corruption, fraud, tax evasion and hate crimesâ.
There is no mention of state ownership in the updated rules, however, but the Premier League said âannual due diligenceâ will be undertaken on current owners and directors to âensure ongoing complianceâ with the rules.
So, it seems that this applies to a degree also to owners already in the place? If yes, very good, although I doubt that it will change much for Abu Dhabi and the Saudis.
I read it as the Premier League trying preserve their own autonomy. An independent oversight panel is in the works, so the Prem is wanting to demonstrate to the government that it can run its own affairs. Too little, too late.
Was there a bit in there about the new regulations coming into force as soon as the Mancs have concluded their sale?
is it a done deal now? Iâve been mostly AFK for this week.
M Oliver reffing the Brighton - Brentford game. Indirect free kick to Brentford in the penalty area. Brighton players encroaches a few yards before Brentford have touched the ball (one just a few yards away by the time Toney gets to it).
Picking up back passes is so rare theses days, so the ref should not be allowing the blatant encroaches. Order a retake.
Steele with a kick down the middle, Mitoma blasts away from the defender, then a lovely chip over the keeper. Good player. We should have kept Taki for us, wouldâve come in useful this season.
Ivan Toney with an instant reply. Good game. Brighton 1 -2 Brentford so far
Could really do with Brighton winning thisâŚcome the end of the season and by accident we finish in the conference play off crap whatever itâs called then hopefully we do the honorable thing and do what Spurs did by withdrawing.
Well itâs 2-2 with Welbeck getting the header.
Just before that, Mac Alister with a stud challenge which M Oliver dithered and did nothing. Makes for an interesting game though.
Arsenal 1-0
M Oliver just allowing Brighton to kick through Brentford. Get the feeling he wanted a bigger game to ref this weekend, but has ended up with this so wants to put his spin on it.
Brentford struggling in defence when Brighton launch it direct and wide (sounds familiar to our woes).
Forest 1 up, huge result if they can hold or better that.
Quite liking the look the more I see of Brennan Johnson.
Comically shit penalty decision in the Arsenal game. Really points to the limitations of VAR as there is no way anyone can reasonably argue that contact was meaningful from a defender who was already one the ground when Jesus tried to go around him. He simply ran out of room and threw himself on the ground. There was definitely contact, and so the decision comes down to a subjective call, and that simply isnt in VARâs remit.
MItoma is so good at carrying the ball. Something weâve missed with Thomas Partey doing a number on Luis Diaz.
Didnât something similar happen to Alexander-Arnold?
L Dunk thinking he is Roberto Carlos at Le Tournoi.
But he absurdly thinks he just needs to take two steps to generate pace, and the ball just trickles through to the keeper.
Not sure what incident youâre talking about. I remember one that was given against us for Everton where Trent was on the ground and Calvert Lewin got tripped up trying to hurdle him. It was absurd, but at least in CLâs defense it wasnt a dive like this one.
