To be honest Hamann is being an idiot. Sure it was a āprovocativeā thing to do but no way can he be booked for doing that with the ball when it is in play. However what he may have learnt is that it will make him target for the kind of foul his everton team mates routinely got away with in the derby which will probably make him cry more.
