Just saw the highlights of the Newcastle game. I saw the penalty initially out of the corner of my eye while at the gym and shruged it off. Soft, but ok it was good work by the forward to nick the ball and get in front of Hwang. Now I’ve seen the replay. These are exactly what VAR was brought in to fix…ones where you can understand what the ref might have got it wrong in real time, but they are fixable with a second set of eyes. Yet the VAR protocol results in a situation where the VAR will think its not a foul, the PGMOL will admit the “better decision would have been no foul” yet the VAR does nothing about it and everyone pats themselves on the back for a job well done.
