A point away against City is always a good result.
Overall we’re still not playing like team that can challenge for the title imo but we’re two points off top and i take that.
Still concerned about our away form/performances. Fulham at Anfield next and after that it’s two away games against Sheffield and Palace. Must win games if we want more than CL qualification.
Oh and how about some dominating displays for a change.
Any lawyerly types on here? Is there any reason the PL need to take all 116 charges on head first? Is it not possible to try City on the easiest to prove charges first?
My issue with the charges has always been that it will take years of uncertainty before the case is finally heard, the losing party appeals etc. During that time City inevitably win more league titles, and if the PL win their case, those league titles then, potentially, will be stripped off City and no party actually wins the league. What’s the point in the league actually taking place then during those uncertain years? It’s like all those seasons will need to be written off if City are stripped of them…
I’m aware many of the charges are related: ‘City is in breach of rule A in year X’, ’ City in breach of rule A in year Y’, and some are definitely going to be harder to make stick due to the convoluted concealment by City, like the fake sponsorship revenues, but other breaches like the 30 charges for non-cooperation should be easier to prove? Why not start with these easier to prove charges, apply a punishment for it asap, especially while it benefits us, and use that as a snowball affect to knock the other charges over?
I agree with your sentiments. Probably the only away trip to Etihad in the league where I wouldn’t have accepted a draw was the one in 2021/22, when we needed to win the game in order to win the title.
We’re still very much a work in progress. I feel that Klopp still hasn’t found the balance in his side and I’m convinced that he won’t find it until he gets a proper defensive midfielder and lets Szoboszlai and Mac Allister play further forward together in their best roles. Without such a player, we won’t be able to properly control the games in the same way Man City control theirs because they have Rodri, who is an insanely well-rounded player and the best in the world in his position. I love Mac Allister and I’m really happy that he’s our player but he really isn’t someone you’d want to see trying to protect our back line when the opponent goes on a counter.
Also, after the international games, a lot of our players look a shadow of themselves. I don’t know if I’m reading too much into it, maybe it’s subjective, but I’d like to see the comparison of minutes played with our rivals’ players in that regard.
Quite a lot of our players are key members or even captains of their respective national teams, meaning that they are playing much more than one would expect (I mean, Van Dijk played against Gibraltar after Netherlands had qualified for Euros, same goes for Szoboszlai). Ironically, had Ederson not got “injured” and missed the Brazil games, we might have won yesterday, who knows…
Until that balance is found, I’ll just be glad if we’re grinding our way to wins. Away form definitely needs to improve but there’s the mitigating factor of having played Man City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham and Brighton at their respective grounds. If we’re still within the touching distance of the first spot after the holiday games are complete, then we can think of a title challenge.
I’d scrap it too until at least we get better technology and the referees are trained better…I can be a little more forgiving when the referee makes a mistake without the help of replays, with it however there’s no excuse.
Player appealing or not doesn’t come into the equation, we can’t start ignoring decisions because of this.
