Premier League 2023/24 (Part 1)

We have the chance to be 12 points ahead of City by the time they play their next league match (against Everton on the 27th).

What about tomorrow then?

West Ham is a League Cup match.

The next three league games are ManU, Arsenal and away against Burnley. Hope Kompany doesn’t get sacked before we play them.

Man United won the league in 2011 with one of the shittest teams I’ve ever seen. Sometimes it’s okay just to be the least shot out of a questionable bunch.

I kind of felt United were gonna scam a result because of them being the only team to take points off us. When City drew the day before I just remember being surprised thinking ā€œwell if we don’t win tomorrow it’s still not a horrible weekend.ā€ Then we did and the gap went to 16 points, but at that point it still hadn’t been achieved, so I’m more optimistic going into tomorrow while recognizing that anything can happen. Whether or not we should have won one or two more, the ā€˜they don’t have the experience’ talking point is gone and City are having this season’s version of the Kompany departure hangover with De Bruyne being out.

Lovely to see Man City drop two more points.

We need to do our job and beat Man Utd. You would have to think Man City will regroup and go on a long run of wins. And Arsenal will be up there.

Our performance level needs to improve, and hopefully it clicks nicely for tomorrow.

Man C need to go 18-2-1 to hit 90 points.

I’d be very surprised if that happened

The teams that won it in 2011 and 2013 were probably the weakest PL winners I’ve seen in my life - and at least one of my Man United supporting mates agrees that these were the weakest Man United PL-winning teams, so I’ll take that.

This league of this season is in a different class to those seasons, though, there’s an awful lot of quality on display here but the bar is just a bit lower than it’s been over the last five years, so everyone thinks that every team aside from Aston Villa is struggling.

That said, our team is very unbalanced compared to Liverpool sides from 2018 to 2022 and that is why I can’t tell what kind of football our lads are playing at times (they sometimes play like they haven’t had a good night’s sleep). I’ll just be happy if we’re consistently picking up wins, especially at this point of the season where our lads have games every three days and when we have two derby games back-to-back.

Eh? We have already played Everton once….that’s the only derby game.

Not for me.

Sorry, mate, but your definition of ā€œDerby gameā€ is way off.

That’s actually not true because they haven’t been to Anfield yet so technically they need to go 18-2. Come on Toro lad.

League seasons differ, its just about being the best.
Or being corrupt.

Will take winning on 75 points as long as we win it.

I think City are having the same season that we’ve had last year, after fighting for 3/4 titles until the end of the previous season.

Which is more a mental than technical or tactical struggle.

Looking at the stats of this game, and its scenario, the result seems to be a total fluke.

But I’ll obviously take that, and hopefully the recent series of comparatively bad results will start sowing little seeds of doubt in Abu Dhabi’s players’ heads. Fingers crossed! :crossed_fingers:

I think we need to remember how much has changed from last season to this. Completely new midfield, will take some time to develop consistency.

We have a very very good opportunity to take command of the table over the next two weekends. 6 points from our next two fixtures would put us in the driver’s seat, then it’s up to Klopp to manage through the rest of the season. I wouldn’t be upset at him putting out a team similar to Thursday’s against West Ham on Wednesday night, not really arsed about the League Cup when we have much bigger fish to fry.

Villa are massively overperforming, which is great for them and I’d love to see them nick a CL place, but I don’t expect them to be up there in May when we play them at Villa Park.

I’ll go out on a limb and say that 85 points probably wins you the league this season. If we can get the forwards firing again, we’ve every chance of hitting that. No European football until mid march will be a massive help, to be honest.

Just the the saw Ederson incident. I get why they didnt give it a red card (DOGSO) but its a prime example of defining guidance for how to apply the rule that completely misses the point.

Oh, his last touch took him ā€œaway from goalā€. But even with that tight angle you give any premier league player the ball in the position where he’d have been able to catch it, with no goalie in goal and a covering defender trying desperately hard to get back, and asked if they fancied their chances of scoring, even the CBs would say yes. It’s a textbook case of if your rule doesnt think that is a goal scoring ā€œopportunityā€ then their rule is wrong.

So I’m banking on wins for us, Brighton and West Ham, to put us 4 clear of Arsenal and 6 clear of Abu Dhabi.
Will also drop the mancs to 9th
