Brentford genuinely play some of the worst football in the league given the players they have, rotten stuff. Thought this for a while but this season I donāt think theyāve played 1 game Iāve been excited with.
Emery unhappy with ābehaviourā of players during win
FT: Brentford 1-2 Aston Villa
More from Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, speaking to Match of the Day: "At the end some moments, some behaviour, of us as well, Iām going to manage our behaviour and take control of it. I will analyse it with our players because it was not normal.
"We were a bit excited and we needed control of ourselves. When you are reacting like that, other players and the other opponent is maybe not being in good behaviour like the match needed.
"Iām going to manage everything we did that was not good and our mistakes in our behaviour.
"Maybe itās not the best for football and for us but always we have very good behaviour with the referees, always respect their decisions, VAR and I will keep doing the same.
āThe players are reacting to circumstances from the opponent or from supporters and we are human but we have to build the team and in difficult moments we can control our mind and be under control.ā
I was skeptical over the Rice signing. Not because I didnt rate him but because it didnt feel to me like enough of a value add for that price for a side with other areas that needed to be strengthened if they wanted to win the league. But heās been marvellous. Probably their best player. But they still look short.
Weāre 1 point behind them. They still have the same limitations that saw them come up short last year and we addressed ours meaning if there is a team I expect to go on a better form through the spring it is us
At this moment, it looks like itās going to be the other way around. I donāt know whatās the style of football weāre playing, Iāve never been convinced in the sustainability of this system, whatever this system might be, our midfieldersā form has largely fallen off a cliff and Iād swap Diaz and Nunez for players who can actually beat their man and score some goals.
Weāve papered over the cracks for long enough, the cracks appeared against one of the worst possible teams. Arsenal will be licking their lips at the prospect of playing us at this very moment.
Yes, because we are a work in progress. Our defence is relatively settled, but the midfield and attack are still learning how to play together. Thatās why any talk of winning the league is fanciful. We were top because other teams have faltered, more than due to our brilliance. Top four and a good run in Europe are realistic goals for the season. Anything else would be a welcome bonus.
I doubt that massively. Especially at Anfield. All the talk about how Liverpool havenāt been playing well but Arsenal have struggled big time away from home this season.
We have to beat midtable dross if we are winning this one.
For me itās frustrating, just because while I understand that we are rebuilding the squad and weāre doing this while being a very strong team, it feels like the timing is not right, with City not clicking and dropping points. But some things we canāt control, as after last year it was painfully obvious that a rebuild was needed.
Did anyone think that this year at Christmas weāll be sitting around the top places after selling half of our squad and bringing new faces and a new midfield? I know I havenāt, yet here we are.
meh, given our problems last season and their improvements we still looked capable of beating them. This season we are better than last year, even if we arenāt playing great. Also, as @Sweeting keeps pointing out teams like Arsenal are not really playing any better yet fans and media feel the need to portray different narratives.
