I’m pretty sure that Klopp’s Liverpool tended to follow up on a majestic month (like December 2018) with an average/crap month (like January 2019). I think this is what’s going on right now - and it would have likely been worse had the derby gone through, those bastards would have maimed our boys and I don’t think Liverpool would have won that.
To think that our current position essentially boils down to winning the Chelsea match, where Chelsea outplayed us for large parts of the game… Yeah, I’m not feeling even a bit optimistic at the moment, who would have thought? I hope that Chelsea will run out of steam at some point, though it doesn’t look like at the moment.
I don’t have confidence because our backline is vulnerable right now. Both fullbacks are shit, Gomez as CB is up and down, Quansah look uncomfortable. All my hope depend on Konate fitness.
Chelsea will start dropping more points now. Just watch. The narrative around them will change from tomorrow onwards
“The title challengers”
That brings with it huge added pressure. They are a young team with zero experience of this. Their manager tried last week to fend it off by saying that they are not title challengers.
Not convinced it brings huge added pressure at this stage of the season. Experience factor also isn’t major either. They’ll just be thinking game by game by and large.
More pressure on our club if anything, given the lead we’ve had.
The response to his injury has been nigh-on disastrous, though. Seven goals conceded in three league matches, including two at the league’s worst side that is on course to beat Derby County’s wretched points record. For all the great things the lads have done this season, the difference between the first and the second boils down to them winning the match against Chelsea.
Admittedly, that is something that Liverpool didn’t manage against Man City in 2018/19 and 2021/22, which ultimately cost them the title both times (if we disregard some of the worst refereeing decisions ever suffered by our club).
I’m afraid that this poor form will linger on for a while unless Slot manages to pull out a tactical rabbit from the hat and help them restore their previous form. It would help if Chelsea would drop some points but it’s foolish to expect that Everton would take points off two Liverpool’s title rivals in two seasons, let alone in two consecutive weeks.
Not sure it’s much of a dilemma. Chelsea are a threat, certainly at this stage anyway for the title. Chelsea, Arsenal, and City are all threats. City have slipped a bit but they’re not out of it yet.
