I watched the Duran red a few times with my lad, and we disagree. He thinks it wasnā€™t a red. I think it was. His left foot slips and he goes down, but then his right foot is the issue. He has a long time to decide where to plant it, and it very much looked to me as though he made a decision to put it into the defenderā€™s lower back, and even made a secondary motion to do it.

It all happened in an off balance sort of plausible-deniability type of way, but Iā€™m on the side that sees intent there, and the red was therefore justified.

That is the key. Even if one believes it was on accident, which I think is a very gracious reading, he had lots of time to figure out a way to not put his studs there which by itself is worthy of a red.
