Are the commentators saying ā€˜the game’s gone’, or are they leaving that for the half time crew

Oohh, there is a new VAR angle that makes it look more legit. He actually came down on the standing leg first before he clipped the trailing leg.

Just watching it now, don’t see that yet. So far I can see why the Arsenal fans are in shock

Studs right into the base of the leg where it meets the foot after raking the instep - a red alright, but usually the trip is called for a yellow

Supporting Arsenal isn’t shocking enough?

Yeah, first few angles it looked like a bog standard ankle clip. There was one angle they showed from the direction of the Arsenal end though that showed the first contact was above the ankle on the standing leg in a stamping down motion. Not malicious, very clearly just tried to clip him and take the yellow, but it’s a justifiable decision.

As a Liverpool fan that wasn’t a red card for Arsenal. However, they nearly got carried to a title by referees last year so maybe it does balance itself out.

Its a clear red card all day long.

That looks incredibly harsh but because it’s for Arsenal I’ll allow it.

Did Oliver give a red onfield because without the slow motion replays, it just looks like a cynical trip.

Studs above the ankle will punch that ticket, just usually not seen

My favorite part is that Oliver gave it hahahaha

Those deluded fucks are obsessed with his record against arsenal

Yeah, he went to the red right away. He had a good angle on the raking action

I still take a draw. Wouldn’t surprise me if Arsenal still win this.

This really is the perfect red card. It was a good spot from the ref and so it’s understandable the players and match going fans will feel they have been screwed. But it was legit. But because of their persecution complex none of them will be able to reflect on this and accept it, and the angst will continue to burn

A crazy red card. Just can’t see how it can be, even in slow mo.

Focus on the standing leg, not the trailing leg he clipped. The first 3 or 4 angles I saw it from that aspect of the challenge was obscured

He brought his studs down the front of his leg before getting a stamp in, which turned into a trip. I was surprised in real time, the live angle looked like just a trip, but the contact was the contact. Comments like this one:

The narrative that it was above the ankle so it’s a red is utter, utter nonsense. There are multiple fouls EVERY game above the ankle that aren’t even given as yellows, let alone a red.

is really just saying that referees miss calls. Yes, they certainly do, and VAR absolutely would not have upgraded it to a red from a yellow

Yeah I think the kid’s unlucky there tbh, he’s trying to flick out his foot to trip him but you can see the studs going into his shin before coming down onto his foot.

Yeah, that is about right - though he clearly had no intent to play the ball, so he was lining himself up for trouble. Without the studs, it is a clear yellow - of the type Arteta clearly coaches to perform. But Arsenal are persecuted…

Pause the clip half a second in, that’s essentially what’s done him.
