Premier League 2024/25 (Part 2)

Soton shouldn’t beat the Derby record but the fact it’s still up there is pathetic.

The gap just keeps getting wider. Established PL teams have access to so much more money and resources that it’s nearly impossible for newly promoted sides to stay up and compete. The only way it can happen is with sugar daddy owners, but since Chelsea/City/Newcastle, rules have been put in place to prevent that sort of thing from happening, making it even more difficult.

I know we all hate it, but a breakaway european super league is almost inevitable at this point. The bright lines of demarkation between Established clubs at the top and everyone else is just getting brighter. You can say that the likes of Forest, Villa, Bournemouth, Leverkusen, etc all show that the cycle can be broken, but it’s so few and far between so as to serve as the exception that proves the rule.

Money rules the world, the sports world doubly so.

Sorry, everyone, but I have to return to this: is this Manc excuse for a football expert drunk, high or, a phrase I learned at TIA ages ago, deliberately obtuse?! They improved the side that Liverpool should have really finished ahead of last season but for injuries, while Liverpool did nothing to improve their own. And Liverpool are the ones who are now ahead by 12 points at the worst. How so?

Look, the only thing you ever need to know about Gary fucking Neville, is that he was successfully trolled by a bunch of schoolkids in the most legendary prank call of all time:

From the bbc website:

No team in English top-flight history, going all the way back to 1888-89, has been this far clear at this stage of the season and not won the title.

I can’t particularly lead to a Super League breakaway considering there are 12 or so teams competing this season.

Also add Spurs and Man Utd who will not continue to be that bad and you have a decently competitive league. The problem is relegated clubs and the ones who come up.

I think the teams that might end up doing the job and perhaps staying up will be teams like Leeds.

There is probably over the two leagues about 10 leagues in themselves. PL 2 is probably the likeliest solution at some point.

The bottom three have obviously underperformed, but the league, as a whole, has been very competitive. We recently had a very tough game against Wolves, for example, and other low placed teams have troubled those at the top.
