One solution would be for them to turn to the Strasbourg manager, Liam Rosenior, who has long been viewed as a potential successor to Maresca. Strasbourg are Chelsea’s partner club and Rosenior has impressed for the Ligue 1 side. Much would depend on the quality of replacement Strasbourg would be able to recruit now.
I’m not sure what has gone on there, but a couple of weeks ago he started talking down about the club. Can’t remember the exact quotes, but it felt then like an exit was coming.
He was backed with loads of signings, and also backed to chop the group down and not even train with some of them, as he said there were too many.
The club World Cup was a joke competition, and they should not have even been there as their invitation was from something achieved in the past and not even close to the time of the tourney, but they won it, and on paper at least, have the squad to put up a challenge for the Prem.
They are a basket case (good). It seems there is a power struggle at the club, and also a lack of vision as they have been talking about a new stadium for years, but don’t look like they are going to do it.
If Maresca has his eye on the Man City job, I wonder what body of work he can point to that would justify it?
