The argument has always been that the league cannot unilaterally disarm relative to the rest of europe, which is what strict spending limits would be seen as. Especially those tied to the lower earners. But the prem has become so much richer than the rest of the Europe that the argument largely falls away.
I dont see it happening, at least not as suggested there, but it will be interesting to see where it goes
Was just listening to Jamie OâHara talk about this subject. Iâm sure you will all be shocked to hear he had nothing intelligent to say on the matter.
In the example of my other great sporting love (Aussie Rules), a salary cap (and draft) works pretty well. A shit club like mine (Carlton) can do some astute planning and be top of the table within a few years. That said, the AFL is an entirely closed eco-systemâŚitâs not competing against another 6 AFLs elsewhere.
Isnât that the same with Baseball? Itâs a self-contained league with no outside competition, hence the financial regulations work. The only way I could see this working is if it is UEFA wide and there are no outside competitions. (Iâm excluding that FIFA pantomime thing.)
Love baseball, but donât know enough about the League to comment.
Would just say, every season in the AFL there are probably 6 clubs that can legitimately be discussed as having a chance of winning the lot. I think that is healthy and would love to see it in the PL, just not sure how you get to that point.
I personally donât think a draft would work in football as it would nulify the whole Youth academy set up. and goal of club developing their own players.
Also, how do you decide a draft order for a league pyramid that has promotion and relegation?
It would need to be a FIFA rule brought in worldwide, not just UEFA in my opinion. If it was only UEFA wide, you can bet your bottom dollar that Saudi, UAE or some other oil run petro league will try to by up any and every player pissed at their earnings being limited.
A previously poor Forest outplaying Chelswa here. A reminder that weâve been well off it recently, notwithstanding the âclosenessâ of the defeats.
City so far negating the otherworldly threat of Haaland by playing him with Doku and Savinho, the latter of whom has been so wasteful he looks like heâs taken money to throw the game
