I just saw that too. I don’t quite understand who they surveyed there, or when. Was it perhaps before the coaching change? In that case, I might actually be able to understand it.
It says at the bottom it was conducted in August so post Andoni being appointed but admittedly before our amazing array of new signings … nevermind

Its not that surprising tbf, no one knows what to expect of the new manager, the team is going through even more changes, and we now have no Salah.
Personally I err on the side of its more fun to have hope, but I fully understand why people wouldn’t be optimistic going into this season. Definitely not a season where there are many expectations on the squad or the manager.

Totally understandable from the fans to not heap too much expectations on the squad and the new manager at this stage. We’ll see how it goes, but having low expectations will help us giving them time while they settle in with Andoni’s new style and expectations.
I’ve got no expectations for the new season, unless the squad is strengthened before the transfer window closes. Everyone knows what we need and nothing has happened, yet. I’m concerned about the season, it could be a struggle.
If LFC can scrap for every available point this side of Christmas… there is a good chance a pattern of play and settled player personnel will have come through this new period of initiation… Which might, just might put us in a good position to go from strength to strength at the sharp end of the season…
Would just love it if Iraola could land the PL at his first attempt… failing that, a good season and a restored identity for the club would be welcomed

I think with us you have consider there are 3-4 players who didn’t show anything much last season and who could be classed as the dreaded “like a new signing”.
I said the bare minimum was a winger and a defender I think if we got a second winger and a CM we would probably have a good chance of pushing on especially in the second half of the season.

I guess the framing of the question is fairly important - I am very optimistic about this season, but I really don’t think it is likely we are going to be in the mix for the title. I would prefer some positions be filled with greater depth and/or improved talent, however that is really more with an eye to building a side that can genuinely challenge in the future.
My optimism is simple - I expect to enjoy watching the match on Sunday. That’s it, that’s all.

Best argument for Arsenal is that someone has to win it, and there are bigger questions around most of the other possibilities. However, last year just about everything that could go right for Arsenal did, and that seldom happens two years in a row.
He is also far more bullish on City than I would be.

Having Villa at sixth, when they finished fourth last season and are the only club with Arsenal to remain relatively stable, is a bit weird from McNumpty. Emery’s brilliant work at Villa continues to be underestimated by fans and media alike.
I suspect that it is because they will be in the CL this year, stretching their squad further than the EL group round did last year. Add in the fact that they have lost Tielemanns, Rogers, and now Konsa, and there are some questions. But I agree with you, they could be a side that simply has better answers for the questions of the season than any of LFC/Chelsea/City/ManU.

They’ve lost 3 really important players in Dinge, Tielemans and Rodgers, and possibly might additionally lose Martinez and Konsa. It will be an enormous achievement for them to stand still and repeat last season’s success

I like their additions, Manzambi in particular, but the Konsa move may be the one that puts a repeat performance out of reach.

I’ve seen 7 or 8 Villa shirts down here in Cornwall this week along with numerous Man Utd and a few Spurs ones.
That often means a shit season for those teams.
Anyhow I would bet on the team that hardly gets a 1st from the pundits
