There was an episode of Doctor Who years ago, where some rich genius kid is kicking off and ranting about something and the Doctor just looks at him and says “It’s been a long time since anyone has said no to you, hasn’t it”.
For some reason, I think of that whenever Bayern get into one of these pathetic, butthurt little strops.
This is the problem with buying in young players from other clubs; they don’t have any real affinity with LFC. Raheem Sterling being a case in point.
If it’s true that he’s been in discussions with Bayern and if he does actually want the move, then I say we should rinse Bayern for pfennig they’ve got and make good use of the money. It would certainly help with our PSR.
Ah we’re back in the fantasy territory of selling or swapping players for unrealistic targets. We did it several times on the old forum as well, when Suarez left, when Alonso left…we’ll take £100m plus their best player etc.
Except that never works
£150m plus Olise?
Thats never happening. Do we think Bayern are that stupid?
I expect our new boss to contact Rio and tell him where he sees him in the team, where opportunities will arise. I expect a seventeen year old boy to want to play for Liverpool instead of being understudy to Diaz at Bayern, in an inferior league…
Its a bit concerning if “talks” have occurred. Hopefully thats not really the case, and that commonsense prevails on both club and players sides.
This is just Bayern’s attitude to every other Bundesliga club. They do everything to unsettle opposition players and disrupt the clubs. They’ve added us to their target list because they are still in a strop about Wirtz. You’d think having got Diaz would have mollified them, but that would be to misunderstand the massive arrogance of that bunch. They think that every good German player is automatically their property and they assume that they will all beg to be allowed to join the ‘Rekordmeister’.
We were weak last summer with the Diaz move and caved in far too soon. They felt that fragility, and are now hoping that they’ll be able to profit from it again.
But things have changed now. With Iraola in place, it will surely be easier to persuade the young lad that his future is in Liverpool, and not to wear Lederhosen.
Didn’t we do what everyone is saying we should be doing when a player hits 2 years left on their contract and sell for a profit? Especially given how many indicators he was giving that he wanted to go.
We got 70m for a 28 year old whoends up getting over 300k a week. He’s still great now, went up a level at Bayern, but doesn’t necessarily mean selling him was weak or wrong in the long term.
