One of my favourite stories is one Keane tells about Hendo at his time at Sunderland. One day he decides to go and watch the reserves and saw a performance that disgusted him so he stormed into the changing room at half time to tell them how badly they were letting themselves down. He asked them if any of them honestly believed they were capable of playing in the first team with a performance like that and an 18 year old Hendo interrupted Keane mid rant to say he did. Keane considered it, said “yeah you’re good but the rest of you are a fucking disgrace” then elevated Hendo the first team shortly after.
Yet even that guy with balls like that struggled with the size of it all when he moved to Liverpool a couple of years later.
