I don’t think it takes anything away from Pele that he learned from others, voraciously so. He wasn’t the best dribbler on that Brazil team, but watching and playing with Garrincha was a big part of how he became such an incredible player. In 1958, it was his shooting combined with pace, power and ball control at speed that made him stand out, but he was still very much developing (17 when he won his first World Cup! Mind-blowing). As he added passing and supremely evasive dribbling, he crossed over into unstoppable.

The goal that Pelé said it’s his most beautiful goal, which was only captured by a few photos. Recreated/reenacted using modern tech, AI, actors, threw them into a blender, and voilà! (or Portuguese equivalent.)
It feels weird watching this AI recreation (not exactly AI slop as there were lots of effort being put into it). Nevertheless, I can imagine the awe for the people on the pitch and the fans watching that goal scored by Pelé in front of them (picking up my jaw from the floor.)

I still think he´s the best player ever, relatively.
He had no weaknesses to his game. Really two footed, quick, strong, good in the air, very good dribbler and passer.
Obviously times move on but he was a phenomenon.

I agree with all that, and would also add longevity. He excelled at the top for a very long time. Other players who might come into the conversation for best ever, like Maradonna, burned very brightly, but their peak output was relatively short-lived.
For me it’s between Pele and Messi as to who is the best ever, but since Messi is still playing, and since he cheapened himself trying to get Cucurella sent off in the World Cup Final, I’m going with Pele.

Also true.< He was great for a long time.
People often talk about his goals but he was more of an attacking midfielder really.
And as good as Messi has been, I am not sure he has had that World Cup impact quite like Pele did at 17.
Pele’s world cup record and influence has to take into account that the team he broke into in 58 was stacked enough already that it would win it again in 62 (almost entirely the same team) even with Pele largely absent through injury.
I wouldnt say so. He was a key player at just 17 and 4 years is a long time.
