Not surprising. Our foreign policy is one of almost complete neutrality generally. Also, BRICS:
Hence I said interesting. All of the Brics countries abstained, bar Russia of course. That’s a tacit disapproval. A proper fuck off Russia disapproval would have been nice, though.
'On January 21, the Russian Ambassador to Eritrea Igor N. Mozgo had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Eritrea, H.E. Osman Saleh Mohammed.
The Ambassador informed the Minister about plans for developing Russian-Eritrean cooperation, interaction and support to each other in the international arena.’
Major money and influence in a country that wasnt** diplomatically recognized by some members in the west. I spent some time in a neighboring country and there’s plenty of political reasons as to why they would vote against
Edited to recognize the US does have diplomatic relations now
Not all of them. India probably has little option but to press abstain here. Should have shown quite a bit more spine though. But stuck between newer ties to US & QUAD and traditional ties to USSR/Russia)…
Also , Russia does help keep the peace between India & China…Which is quite important here. Remains to be seen what new role Russia can play once it emerges out of this shithole…They’ve lost a lot of credibility for sure.
What this basically does is that it’s going to put off China’s moves on Taiwan. Russia has a far superior armed presence than China… Any Chinese aggression to Taiwan will only result in Taiwan allowing the US to set up naval bases in Taiwan. That paired along with bases in Japan and Korea will lead to American ships in South China Sea.
I expect that’s what Biden/US will look at now. Don’t generally praise the US, But this is a well played plan. Isolates both Russia and China with different set of allies…and provides a check against rampant aggression by both the leaders there(Putin & Xi). This is assuming that Putin does back down and doesn’t go full retard ofcourse.
