What are the Chechans doing fighting with the Russians anyway? I know itā€™s a long time ago but what happened in the Chechan wars is well within memory. Some of those fucks will have been little kids scared to death at the time.

Kadryov was handpicked by Putin to run Chechnya after his miltia helped bring the insurgency to an end. He enjoys the same kind of patronage as other Kremlin proxies.

Lord Lebedev? Thatā€™s fucking General Zod you daft pricks.

Looking ominous for the Russians. Iā€™m not at all versed in military strategy, so Iā€™m bit unsure if this point of view make sense or not.

Bit of a different perspective, but of course, we must not take this as the total truth.

Decisions and conditions for peace are completely between Ukraine and Russia. If Ukraine cede some territory to Russia as they think itā€™s in their best interests, then thatā€™s their choice.

We in the West, not just us on TAN hiding behind our computer screens, but also politicians of the West, can continue to talk tough about Russia saying we should give them nothing, but the facts are that apart from supplying weaponry and money, the West have been intent on keeping their hands very clean, so we should also keep our hands clean in the negotiations.

If there was such a thing where Ukraine cedes some territory, Ukraine provides some form of assurances to remain outside of NATO, and the West guarantees the independence of Ukraine, and both the Ukraine and Russian parties agreed, who are we in the West to suggest thatā€™s not hurting Russia enough? We arenā€™t the ones whoā€™ve lost 1000ā€™s of lives (on both sides).

Well put GK. Iā€™m not sure what the distinction is between guaranteeing Ukraine independence and NATO membership though.

Guaranteeing the independence would in effect give the West a casus belli against Russia if Russia invaded Ukraine again, and would hopefully also enforce NATO to protect them (which is the important threat to ensure Russia stays out). But would not drag Ukraine into wars led by NATO. In short, NATO couldnā€™t use Ukraine territory as a launching pad into Russia.

The idea that NATO would be the instigating party in an attack on Russia is really for the realm of nutcases anyway, and we know the ā€˜NATO encroachment fearā€™ from Putin is a BS line to cover for his aggressive expansion. But still. Itā€™s something.
