Seems the Pontoon bridge was actually destroyed. Was some discussion if it just looked destroyed or really was:

Here you can see a drone image of the column destroyed today. Severe armour losses.

Taking a mental hygiene break. Maybe the entire night, maybe not. But getting into personal arguments is also taxing and something I donā€™t need on top of all of this.
I am sorry you were so offended, @Bekloppt . I really like you as a person in general, just as you know.

I thought the Chinese perspective above in the thread was very insightful. I read the whole thing. I could see China stepping in to pull Putin away from this madness. (When I say pull away I mean negotiate a settlement, less than what he wanted to cede, and probably more than what Ukraine wants to cede, but that seems the best way out before a threshold is crossed militarily that makes it that much harder again to end this thing).

Hopefully China will help the whole world and step in to have a word with Putin. I donā€™t see anyone else able to do that, and it would improve Chinaā€™s own relations with the west.

Thatā€™s ok, I know you are very emotionally involved with this. I donā€™t think you really understood my point and I felt insulted by your condescending tone.
Never mind. Itā€™s not really important what we write on a football forum.
Peace

China are the only big winner here.

Russia will have a weak negotiating position when it comes to trade. The Chinese will know and exploit this.

This time next year China will be leveraging its position to buy Russian resources at substantially reduced prices.

China have gained advantage from all the major crises this century.

It isnā€™t taking that long. Firstly, Russian crude is trading at a significant discount versus the major indices, but volumes are not down that much. A large percentage of physical deliveries must be to China. Secondly, Russia is now shut out of most dollar transactions, and must be doing a significant amount of trade on the Chinese transaction platform, de facto accepting the Chinese valuation of the ruble.

Ukraine would become an enormous nothing state without access to the sea. This is one of Russias aims. If you havenā€™t noticed they are pushing hard to get to and surround Odessa, itā€™s the key to one of their objectives.

Thatā€™s why i didnā€™t suggest it.
Once again, I suggested Donetsk and Luhansk be absorbed into Russia while the rest of Ukraine becomes part of NATO and the EU.
This is close to the ideas being floated by negotiators on both sides, but a bit harsher on Russia.

Whoā€™s to say the replacement wouldnā€™t be a nice happy gullible chap?
