Poland, Czechia and Hungary were “Eastern Europe” until the demise of the USSR and the former Soviet Republics to the east claimed independence. And that independence was honored until the last 8 years when Crimea was annexed, then an attempted (successful???) coup in Kazakhstan.
if I were on the border of the former Soviet empire I’d be very nervous right now. squeaky bum time.

That is exactly the kind of things which will add weight to what Putin has said all along: that the NATO and the US are out to harm and interfere with Russian affairs, and are targeting him personally.
