Blimey, the tracker Iāve used puts payment for fossil fuels from the EU to Russia since it invaded at ā¬20 billion but Josep Borrell has today put that figure at ā¬35 billion.

The ā¬1 billion/day may be an accurate figure in aggregate, but might not reflect the structure of the transaction. For some contracts, settlement may have been April 1, so the ā¬20 billion might have been a correct statement of funds transferred up to March 31, with a large jump up the next day.
Nah, the ā¬20 billion is just an automated counter. So may simply show the aggregated amount of the yearly spend as it accrues by the second.
Youāre right that it is unlikely to reflect a current real time spend though which will obviously be lumpy.

It may be that any war crimes investigations will be accounting for missing people rather than counting bodies. During the Holocaust around 20% of those murdered were at the Belzec camp but it is little known to the general public compared to Auschwitz. The simple reason for this is that the sole purpose of the camp was mass murder and as a result there were barely any survivors (I think we are talking single figures) and therefore few witnesses.
The fact that they have mobile crematoria ready seems to indicate that this is planned.
