They seem to have this almost giddy euphoria that’s giving them this belief in their own invincibility and I really can’t quite figure out where it’s coming from.
They really are starry eyed about this new Sarmat missile, aren’t they. Sarmat this, Sarmat that, Sarmat go boom. I wonder if they’re aware it’s not even operational yet. I’m not sure if they’re aware of MAD and how it works but perhaps someone should educate them on Western strategic nuclear policy and how it works. Perhaps throw in a free tour of an Ohio or Vanguard class boomer while they’re at it.

I watched a piece on the possibility of destroying an ICBM once it was launched. Basically it was possible if it was only 1 but still difficult. If it were several (which it almost certainly would be) there was no chance of preventing strikes.
What puzzled me was the claim that it would wipe out the British Isles. Err, no. London, yes but not the whole of the UK particularly as the prevailing wind is south-westerly.
Equally puzzling was the point @wyld.at.hrt makes. They seem to ignore the fact the US and UK has a constant nuclear ready response deployed at sea at all times. They’ve got subs that are bound to be very close to Russian waters right now. Russia would have zero chance of defeating them.
Was somewhat comforting to see one of the Russian commentators make the point that a strike from Russia would result in MAD but worrying that he was clearly the lone voice of reason among a group of giddy jingoistic fuckwits.
